bought 4000 gamer points today. got home and started scratching off the plaque stuff off the back. Used a knife....

accidentally scraped some of the digits off. great. called retail. they wont refund nor would they trade a card.

they said call myxbox etc etc. did that...TWICE... they said call the store back for a number to the actual people who manufacture the card.

Call back the store. they dont know what im talking about and teh manager doesnt get back til next week.

so good... im out $50.

Microsoft... you need to change your ****ing policy. They had access to my account when i called. yet they wouldnt give me the 4000. The lady just stated she wasnt allowed to do that.

.... -irate- has anything similar to this happened to you guys?

I dunno, seems to me that it's kinda your fault you scratched off the digits... How many numbers/letters were missing? You could always do the guess and check.

Wow, this is really freaking me out. Same thing happened to me yesterday at Petmart. I bought a ferret and ACCIDENTLY stepped on it as soon as i got home. Called management, they didnt give me a refund. Petmart reaally needs to change their stupid policies regarding accidental flattening of items purchased in the rodent department. Those bastards!

On a more serious note, it's no one's fault but your own that you're out $50, and you have no right to request a refund for your own (for lack of a better term) idiocy. Next time be a bit more careful about handling your property.

I could say the same thing about human intellingence in general, as indicated by your post. Honestly, how do you expect people to react to such a bone-headed action? Why even tell us about it in the first place?

It wasnt a bone-headed reaction. If you go home and you end up doing something dumb. i.e. dropping that new tv you just purchased. typically most retailers will replace it for you no problem if you have your reciept.

The same cant be said with these apparently. I just find it unneccessary to call me a moron/idiot multiple times. I fully agree that most people are stupid in general. But these are mistakes. Tried to improvise. didnt work. i learned from it. christ man.

But anyway, thats the last from me before it turns into a flame war. If you guys have anymore responses ill read but yeah ill let the thread die now.

If you accidentally scratch off a letter or image on a scratch and win lottery card they don't give you a refund either... go figure!

On a more serious note how many digits did you scratch off? As someone suggested try the guess and check method. Also, MS doesn't use Z's or Q's in their codes so that eliminates a few digits. Or, call customer support again and explain your situation. Someone had an issue like this on the Xbox Forums and called support four times before they reach a rep who able to help him decipher what the scratched off digits were. Good luck man!

I think that microsoft shoulda at least done something for you or the store at least give you a new card its not like the number on that card will cause the next cold war or something. Everyone makes mistakes even microsoft look at Windows ME that was a mistake as it was full of bugs. or I think that was the one that was all messed up.

I've scratched off numbers before using a coin, so even when you are safe there can be problems. Don't listen to these jerkoffs. Instead, MS allows you to submit a digital photo of the card and then they will provide you (within a week) with the actual number or a replacement for the same value.

Trust me, I've done it.

I agree!

Its not like those cards say "please scratch with pennies".

It seems like you could get something from the store you bought it from.

Go to the store and tell them that you scratched it with a penny and it scratched the numbers off.

Just play stupid and dont take no for an answer.

You will get a new card I promise.

If the manager you talk to offers nothing ask how to contact the district manager and also ask for a comment card and his name.

I promise if you do all that you will get a new card or a refund.

Make sure you bring the old card and your reciept.

You are right though.

Most the people in the Gamespot forums are total dicks.

We used to come to Forums for answers, now everybody just gets flammed for no reason.

So you used a knife. Who the hell cares. Take pride in knowing they are probably posting from there parents basement and they have nothing better to do but think of ways to flame people on the internet for stupid reasons.

These people aren't calling you a moron for using a knife, they're calling you an idiot for making this thread andcomplaining fora refund/exchange.

You, yourself, admitted that it was a "mistake" and therefore, it's your liability and no one else's. So the whole point of this thread was to complain about how unfair you've been treated, but if you're going to admit you've made a mistake, then that just killed the purpose and main idea of this thread.

Next time use a coin please.

Why not let someone with good eyes find the numbers/letters for you? You must know someone that has a good pair of peepers on them, so go find them and tell them to translate the numbers/letters.

hmmm... I honestly dont believe you, and if you are not lying i dont feel bad for you because you prolly shouldnt of used a knife, you can easily scratch it off via finger nail, or coin. I think the cards and the digits are a little to strong to scrath it off even if you scratched with a knife but you could of i guess IDK. But If you really did scratch it off, then man that sucks IDK what to do.

When I am scratching I use a 50 pence piece :)
Good to hold not to small and doesn't scratch off numbers.

Inlike the knife, that was made to butter bread and stab people.

First off, how can you expect a refund/exchange from a product you broke from your own negligence. That's like buying a 360, dropping it on the ground by accident and expecting an exchange. Secondly, depending on how many characters you scratched off, you can just fill in the missing digit until you get the right code. If there is only 1 character scratched off then there is only 36 possibilities and shouldn't take but 30 minutes to achieve. 2 or more is a different story though :(

If you pay good money for something, don't take a knife to it. You wouldnt do it to a car or prostitute, the points card is no different.

every card has a serial number besides the code,so they could check the serial number of the card and find out the code for that card and check for whether it was already redeemed or not, once i did it with a phone company, and why not, and oh yeah i have just tried a knife and yes it does come out (1250 points)

That really blows, but it seems you have screwed yourself in this situation, just make sure you learn from your mistakes.

Good Gaming!!!
