The used game/borrowing policy + 24 hour offline limit = no buy for me.

It may sound like I'm overreacting, but am I really? I've been a very loyal MS supporter for over the past 10+ years. Owned both consoles and played the heck out of 'em. Purchased countless games and have put hundreds upon hundreds of hours of playtime into them. Sorry if I'm rambling, but just trying to describe my loyalty to the company.

These limitations seem pointless and are just flat out annoyances. MS keeps trying to state the fact "none of these drawbacks are making us any extra income" but to be honest I can't believe that for a second. There's definitely stuff they aren't telling us when it comes to that extra cash flow. Makes me uneasy.

As fellow Xbox gamers, I'm curious about your thoughts regarding the new console and the newly announced policies. Do you think they're going too far with all this? The points they made on the Kinect's customizable privacy features were rather comforting, but everything else was simply disappointing.

This is why i bought a second or backup 360 thats sits in my closet on a shelf. It is a 4 GB slim and it is for the day when my current 360 dies i will just swap the hd into the new unit and keep rocking my 360. I refuse to be bullied into online gaming and what not. I don't use xbox live now and refuse to buy any system that mandates connectivity and usage policies. I love my 360 and there are more than enough games that i have and want to buy to last me years. Guess i will have one fat library cause i will not be making the switch anytime soon. Maybe in a year or two when the dust settles we will see but for now 360 is just fine for me. I was a poor child growing up, if I hadn't been born a boy I wouldn't of had anything to play with.

The used game policy is great, I think. They are doing this, I believe, because they know it will encourage development on their platform. It will get more gamers buying more copies of the games developers work hard on, rather than just passing around a used copy like some cheap harlot. The Internet thing is an issue for me though. Right now I'm fine, but I want to move out of my parent's soon, which means I may have to hold off on Internet for a while. That said, PC is already like this, pretty much. Steam without Internet? Forget about it. Discs? Don't you have to install those and use a code? Yeah, no Internet wouldn't work. The PS4, with it's FB integration and cool-butt cloud system, will probably require it too. I'm at a loss... I will probably still buy an X1.

Well, I'm glad to hear it's not only me. Yeah, like the one dude said (sorry I can't remember your username and don't feel like going back a page, haha) the used game thing isn't quite as bad, but that internet policy would just drive me up the wall. Sorry MS, I'm just not sold :/

Way to screw up Microsoft.

Seriously, what happens when the next console's lifecycle is over and Microsoft shuts off their servers for the X1? The console becomes an expensive paperweight and all the games you bought are now useless. Forget being able to go back and enjoy your games like you could for the previous consoles.

I'm REALLY hoping Sony doesn't make these ridiculous requirements for the PS4, otherwise I don't know what I'm going to do next gen.

The whole used game policy is a non-issue for me, since I don't buy my games used (I don't need to play any game on Day 1 and these days just about every game drops to $40 within 3-4 months and down to $20 within a year) and I rarely sell/trade/loan the games I own. But the required check-in every 24 hours is complete bullsh*t. They might as well have made the system require a 24/7, always-on internet connection to function and not only let Orth keep his job, but promote him and let him establish the official "Deal With It" XBox One technical support website and hotline, because it essentially amounts to the same sort of anti-consumer hatef*ck. It'll be interesting to see how Microsoft tries to unf*ck themselves from all the negativity they continue to generate amongst the gaming community.

i shouldn't have to prove i'm not doing anything illegal by having Microsoft check in on me every 24 hours. i'm also completely over having to pay for online gaming. I've never been a huge fan of the xbox exclusives, so unless there's some huge bombshell game at e3 (alan wake 2 perhaps) I doubt i'll be getting the new xbox

I disagree with some of you here. I think the borrowing game policy is AWEFUL. I trade games back and forth with friends and also my sister! Or what about taking a multiplayer game over to a friends to play it for a few hours? Ive been a HUGE Xbox fan since I first played Halo 1 in a gamestop 543 years ago!!! But all these new policies are breaking my heart.

I already have PS3 so if I have to make the switch to PS4 it might not be so hard. I guess we will have to see what they have to show for themselves during E3. But for now its not looking good...

It annoys me when people say paying for xbox live = paying for online gaming. XBL has so many features that PS+ doesn't, and with 300,000 new servers and the cloud gaming for MS to maintain you can't pay $40 (lol @ anyone who pays full price for gold) a year for all that and cross game chat? I mean if you really believe that Sony has better exclusives you prob. should get a PS4, but don't abandon MS for all these stupid reasons that these ignorant posters keep preaching.

I didn't say that.

If past generations are anything to go buy, what I purchase on the X1 won't transfer over the next generation. And when Microsoft decides to kill the servers for the X1 in the future (which will someday happen), the console and all the games you bought won't work.

"Getting a PC" people, listen: Steam. Great service, no doubt. Great deals, great games, awesome stuff. What does it require? Internet. What do you have to do when installing a game? Authenticate a game via code, which checks their online database. YOU HAVE TO HAVE INTERNET!! "Moving to PS4" people, listen: the Playstation 4 is built for social interaction -- FaceBook, Ustream, their social network attempt. Also, don't forget their cloud service, Geiki (I just butchered that). That, plus the fact that DRM would require Internet -- which without DRM they will lose publishers and developers to Xbox. With all that, I wouldn't be surprised for PS4 requiring Internet. If you are able to play over Xbox Live right now, then why can't you with an Xbox One? My scenario is when I move out I won't have Internet for the first month or two, but I will get Internet as soon as possible. I don't have an issue past this, and a lot of you don't. You guys are just shocked they would do this, and want to complain. Shut up. Whatever console you get, or if you play PC, you're gaming experience will be hindered without Internet. Whatever you choose will be a good pick, but make sure you aren't stupid about it.

yep, my sentiments exactly. and kinect 2.0 forced on me is a 110% dealbreaker for me as well.

it was rejected by almost everyone on the 360 and no one wants it on xbox one. sooo they decide to force it on us with xbox one?? why?! lol. makes NO SENSE!

-we don't want it.

-we won't use it.

-we don't like it.

-it will drive the price of the console up by $100-$150

it's almost like microsoft is intentionally trying to fail.

Steam does allow you to play offline indefinitely, however. And as you said, you can get games for crazy low prices, something I haven't seen Xbox Live even come close to matching.

People will complain as they damn well please.

Completely missing the point. Yes, of course you need an internet connection to buy a game through Steam - once you've had it downloaded though, you can play if offline without any restrictions. None of this every 24 hours nonsense Microsoft is trying to pull.

My original point was for Steam you have to have Internet. For Xbox, you will have to have Internet. For PS, it's still not released, but I'm willing to put money down on it requiring an Internet connection. Pretty much, unless you want to go for a Wii U, you'll have to have Internet. People aren't understanding this. Stop complaining about Xbox, because this is the new standard. Pick your poison. (PS: I don't want to argue about Steam. I've been a die-hard console gamer all my life, but even I recommend getting a good PC and downloading Steam. I'm just trying to get people to realize no matter where you go, you will have to have Internet.)

So you're going on the generation where Microsoft was ordered to stop making their console and had to use all new architecture in their next gen console?

You're kidding right?

Are you new to all this "gaming" stuff? I don't mean that in an insulting way I mean it like do you really not know what went on from generation to generation?

I feel kinda bad for the guy. My job stresses me out, and I'm no CEO or executive. But imagine taking his job and stress, and to top it off feeling the pressure of this shit storm on all forums and have to go in to work. But then I think he's rich, his future is financially secure, probly gets laid every night. And to top it off had 8 years to think about features, so it evens out.

I love how people are complaining about MS forcing Kinect on people but not saying anything about Sony forcing Move on people through the controller.

Beacuse its good guy Sony, who are known to be one of the worst offenders of consumer rights and DRM, whos console as yet still exists on paper and who have not given an officla clear honest answer on their policy. They let MS take the flak while hiding behind a skirt and big girl blouses.

Wait a minute, what's this 24 hour offline policy?

I just want someone with a camcorder to film the microsoft team when they realise they aren't going to even hit half of the 1 billion they are expecting.

I think they were saying consoles in general will sell 1 billion, not just the X1.

I've been a loyal xboxer since 2001. as a parent the used/borrow/transfer game fee and structure is a deal breaker for me. I have to make sure fees and internet connections are satisfied just so my son can play the game. I will gladly buy a PS to stick it to Microsoft. Its already ridiculous paying for LIVE when MS collects advertisement fees.

No used game fees, sir. Your son and you both will be able to enjoy your full X1 library. Even if he goes to a friend's house, he can access your WHOOOOLE library from the cloud -- without needing the disc.

The used game and online requirements are why I'm skipping the xbox one. Hopefully MS realize how many sales they would gain by scrapping both of these ideas and fix it.

The no used games is awful IMO you basicly won't own your games anymore, but I love the always online. There has been a lot of games runied by hackers and for what I hear the always online will stop hackers. the thing that will stop me from buying a new Xbox is the kinnect

[QUOTE="AJC3317"]i shouldn't have to prove i'm not doing anything illegal by having Microsoft check in on me every 24 hours. i'm also completely over having to pay for online gaming. I've never been a huge fan of the xbox exclusives, so unless there's some huge bombshell game at e3 (alan wake 2 perhaps) I doubt i'll be getting the new xboxfirefox59

What are these features you speak of?

I too am highly disappointed with Microsoft's decisions to add these policies to Xbox One. As a older sibling, all I got growing up were hand-held devices, while my brother got the big systems. I've had my 360 since 2008 and 5 years on, still playing. I would love to carry over to the next Xbox, it didn't come with crappy policies and if it didn't charge people to transfer their tags or charge for pre-owned games. Backwards Compatibility is what's causing me to switch to PS4 as I will not be able to afford new games while on a budget and on medications that cost more than buying new games for a system that will be crappy over all.

Perhaps I am the only one, but I will get both consoles regardless of these things people are hating on. I'm in it for the games. Any time I play games I'm connected to the internet anyways.
