What are the selection criteria for a goty?

Is it the amount of sell in a year? Or its the pourcentage of all the reviews? Or is there some kind of jury? I really dont know because I think that its not fair if its the total amount of sell in a year that doesen't really make the game better than others.... it would obviously be halo 3. And i dont want it to be halo 3. I had really much more fun with The Orange Box and I put my hopes on Call Of Duty 4 and Assassin's Creed! (Maybe that's because i don't usually like Futuristic games)

Game of the year is you win a game of the year award from any one, doesn't matter who and release the game as a game of the year edition. It's only done to make more money, it has nothing to do with sales or if the game is any good. So I agree with you, its a sham system.

My GOTY will probably be Mass Effect. It looks like it will have fun gameplay, a great story, an interesting galaxy to explore, and last a very long time. If it doesn't go to Mass Effect, I am hoping Call of Duty 4 will get GOTY.
