Its not that I'm against paying for services, but I don't really see what we're paying for they don't have dedicated servers, it cant be the marketplace because everything there costs additional money so somebody tell me what are we paying for.

P.S. Please serious answers no Bull.

Well, if sony had any good games like the 360 I guess they could have the exact same expierience for free because they don't have dedicated servers either and they pay nothing which sounds about right.

Ummm, PS3 does have dedicated servers. Warhawk alone has over 5 data centres filled with them.

I'm not a fanboi of either, I actually own a wii. And im waiting to buy an xbox elite with the 65m chip.

But it's super retarded that ms try to charge you for xbox live, the authentication server, achievement server, demo downloads are all your paying for. Hell they even try to bludgeon you with a 10 dollar bill for avatars? It's pretty lame when you take a step back and look at it.

So when you play your playing on Sony's servers or the games dev's servers if you really do play on dedicated servers which means lag free for the people watching at home then I might go out and buy a PS3.

P.S. Do all the PS3 games run on dedicated servers or just Warhawk?

Thats exactly what I'm saying we don't even have better online then the PS2 well I don't see the difference anyway you put in the game go to the MP screen and join a game thats it I don't see what I'm paying 80 dollars a year for.

P.S. I think the silver service should be online play only, but if you want the demos, videos, and etc. then you buy live its as simple as that I don't see how they're getting away with this robbery.

tell that to the mods lurking with the zap button right now. (Most do cept the more casual ones which are best suited to make your own server style things.)

Were all being ripped off. We just pay for it cause we want to play console games online and so far 360 has all the games. Time will come when everybody is going to question it's legitimacy when Sony and Nintindo catch up (hopefully sooner then latter)

the opportunity to download map packs, games, themes, and gamer pics for a often overpriced fee. Ubisoft has my respect for getting away from charging for map packs. at least with GRAW 2 and R6 Vegas. Epic Games(Gears of War) suffered by having their balls trapped in the cold, clammy, hands of Microsoft Game Studios and being forced to charge for their map pack.

To bad 500,000 people downloaded those maps. MS is happy with that.

some depressing math...
  • Gears of War Map Pack 2 = 800 MS Points
  • 800 MS points=$10 USD
  • 500,000 x $10 USD = $5,000,000 USD
FOR A FREAKING MAP PACK!!! We got pwned. We got pwned real good.

I guess the whole "PS3 usually gets the map packs integrated into their version for free" dont help either. I dont mind paying for extras as long as its of reasonable price and that I know its not going to be free for a long long time.

i guarantee that microsoft is making money hand over fist with xbox live. the subscriptions alone are $50 a year and multiply that by the over 1,000,000 members. they have 50 million dollars to run an online gaming service where they don't even need servers to host the games. on top of that, they charge for additional content, video marketplace, gamer themes and pics. they make an @$$load of cash off of gamers here. i hear sony's Playstation Network is a mess so i'd rather put up the money for a reliable service.
