Ok - first i'd like to say this ISNT a troll / hate thread!!!!

What gripes do fellow 360 owners have with their console?

Be it games, hardware, online - or msoft themselves. Hell even other XBL players!

Me personally?

The 360 is as loud as a freaking hair dryer. Seriously it twice as loud as my overclocked PC - that has 5 fans inside it!

Oveheating - yes my 360 has paused many times, and I have it out in the open - with full ventellation. Hell its near a frequently open(ed) window!

The other sounds it makes - mostley the DVD Drive. Sometimes the thing sounds like its chewing up my games. Sometimes it simply goes quiet and sounds like it has stopped spinning - during games.... Then it freezes.

Red Lights of Death. I cant see how any 360 cant say this. I FEAR it. I dont want my $600 AUD invesment going kapput! Msofts 'bundle' of the 'extended warranty card - for a PRICE' with 360s is CRIMINAL! Grah!

And paying to play online... I dont like it (Though LIVE is very nice!). I mean Silver is free - has all the dandy features - and Gold offers online games...? Without any dedicated servers? Not cool.

Apart from all of that, im very happy with my 360, and think its defitnaly the best purchase ive made this year :P The good does out do the bad!

Your gripes / concerns?

Hardware reliability is the only real issue I have. Breaking for no real reason after I treated my 360 like Christ in a box is not cool.

I don't have any gripes really had my 360 since Aug of last year and it hasn't even froze on me once, but If I had to think of any gripes it would be the fact that Microsoft didn't include HDMI when the 360 was released

#1 for me...

I had to change my gametag/ account yesterday to unify an account and it cost me 800 points just to change my name. Aaargh! Oh well done now.

Other than that - I have an Elite now and have no complaints whatsoever with it.

The POWER BRICK!!!

Goddamit, Sony can fit the freaking powersupply INTO the PS3, and its slightly bigger than the 360... We have to put up with this HUGE freaking grey slab!

On that note I love gray slabs that supply power, but my main problem with it is that it seemed like microsoft rushed the 360 onto store shelves.

An example is how early adopters got screwed over when they announced the Elite, a premium console over the premium 360. Also a wi-fi adaptor for 100usd is an outrage.

They should have just released an ultimate 360 with all the features of the elite plus an internal hd dvd player and wi fi. Then called that the premium and then rebrand the current premium xbox asthe core system.

stuff in the marketplace cost to much to me and thats my biggest gripe.other than that my system has been good to me.

p.s. keeping ur x360 by an open window may not be the best i dea lots of dust couldve gone in andthat could be the problem.

Oh yea Msoft not making the hard drive manditory was a real blunder.

Im guessing newer games may have 'hard drive needed to play' stickers on the back - just like the old days of the N64 Expansion Pack.

Even Though not including HDMI and some form of HD playback from the begining is a problem for SOME 360 owners, it doesnt mean that thats a product of it being rushed. At the time, that was their business model. And to be honest, it made perfect sense. It would be stupid to loose over $200 per console when the xbox has been loosing money since 2001. They had to make compromises between power and affordability to maintain sales. They knew Sonys console was going to be super expensive. How can you compete with a super expensive console? Make one with graphics almost as good or just as good, but sacrifice other features. They sacrificed Wifi (something not everyone uses) and HD media player (something even LESS people would use).

Personally I like what they did. I dont want an HD DVD player yet, so im not forced to pay for one. I dont need Wifi so im glad i didnt pay for that better. I would rather spend a day running a cable through my apartment so it is unseen, because no matter what anyone says, using cables is more reliable than wifi.

Recently Microsoft saw that if they come up with a new xbox with very similar extras as the PS3, they can further hurt Sonys sales. I think the elite was their way of trying to make things even more difficult for Sony, not a mistake in the beggining of the consoles life. Most good business men would probably do the same thing if it was their company.

My point pretty much is that the core console is absolutely useless. It causes game developers to bottleneck games and optimize them for a console without a hard drive. Microsoft was weak in that decision of making a console without a hard drive at all just in order to save people 100 dollars.

The fact is they should have just made the Premium 360 and people would not have known any difference. Sure the market isn't ready for any sort of next gen format yet, but what about in a year or two when hd tv's can be bought for dirt cheap and many consumers will have purchased them. Will they want thehd dvd or blu ray over the far insuperior dvd standard? I think so. Maybe microsoft is just capitalizing on this fact of purchasable, overpriced upgrades.

I mean who wouldn't have purchased a full fledged hd dvd, wi fi driven, 120gb, hdmi toutingXbox 360 at launch for around $550 meanwhile keeping the current premium 360 at the $400 price point and not even having the core as an option. Not only would we save money in the future, but we would have a far superior console at this point.

The heat and sound are pretty big issues when playing, as is the unreliability of the hardware. I also wish that there was more variety in the games. A lot of the big titles have been shooters. A lot. They're not bad games, I'd just like to see more games in other genres. Shouldn't have long to wait though...

My 360 is freezing on me. It started almost a month ago, only once in a while it would occasionally freeze on me while I was trying to find a match in C&C 3, but now its freezing in under five minutes after I turn it on. Is there anything I can do to reverse this? I don't want this thing to die on me.

P.S. I keep my 360 well ventilated.

So I guess some are willing to buy the 120gb hard drive for an extra $180, a wi fi adaptor for $100, and an hd dvd player for another $200. Adding $480 to the cost of a premium 360, bringing the total to $880 instead of just buying a "ultimate 360" for between $550 and $600.

Oh wait if I just bought all those separately I guess I could just buy another 360. My point is microsoft is just price gouging and should have just offered a complete fully featured xbox 360 from the beginning as an option for those that want the best they could buy.

***A note to people having issues with their 360's freezing. I found that it was a problem with the power supply overheating and not getting enough air. Proping the power supply up at around a 45 to 90 degree angle so the base of it doesn't touch the ground helped it dissipate air more effectively and stopped my freezing problems.

Phil_Ken, your reasonable tone is appreciated, but this kind of topic belongs in System Wars. The 360 board is not the place to make a thread criticizing the 360.
