what do i need for xbox gold live? and how much?

i was just wondering what hardware do i need for xbox live, how do i connect the phone connection or what connection do i need and how much do need to spend? i live in australia so i thinking of au dollars.

if you have a dial-up connection you cant play on xbox live, but if you have DSL then you need a modem if you want to hook it up directly to the internet but it drains the connection so you wont be able to use the computer while you play.

My perfered options are:

1. Get a wireless router with network adapter ( thing that hooks up to the back of your 360.)

2. Get a router. BUT you wont have as much area to place your 360 from your computer.

Besides a router(wireless or wired) and network adapter ( if you go wireless), or a modem for a direct connection you also need a harddrive and a mic....well you dont need one but id reccommend one.
