Marathon came out for today's XBL Arcade game. I got the trial, and it left me...disoriented...After playing I was really dizzy cause the game was kind of crazy and all over the place. I really didnt know where I was going and ended up going to the same places over and over again. What did you guys think?
Hmm, I loved it, and it didn't make me sick at all. We must have a lot of weak stomachs here.The levels are somewhat like a maze at times though. This is definitely the best XBLA game to date.
Why is this even on Live Arcade? They should concentrate on giving us more original 2D indie titles, why would anyone even consider playing an ancient FPS when the formula really hasn't changed all that much? Â
i didnt like it i didnt know where to go and it was pretty boring i wondered around for about 10 minutes when i couldnt take it anymore and turned it off. The spyglass games was pretty cool tho.
I liked but then again im a fan of the originals and use to play them on a laptop my friend gave me. The graphics look better than the original and for me it was a nastalgic play through. Personally i belive its the best xbla game out but really if you dont want to play an old game why dl it. its there for nastalgic purposes all of us old bungie fanboys from before the halo stuff will enjoy it others will see a slightly better doom clone
For those having motion sickness: 1) Turn OFF HD graphics (doing this preserves pixelation which looks cool in these old games plus crisp 2D looks weird in HD because of the 3D environment) 2) Lower aiming sensitivity by at least one notch lower than the default (slower movement in the small space reduces feelings of disorientation) 3) Turn ON head bob (corresponds with gun movement) After doing these things, it greatly improves the experience! Personally, I have a strong stomach, but after I did a few more playthoughs with these changes (plus upping the difficulty for a challenge) I am enjoying the trial even more. A few more hints: Read the terminals as they tell you what to do. Take breaks! Don't play for more than 15-20 mins to avoid these problems. 'x" and 'y' button ARE useless.
I'm really excited that they released this, but overall I think its a mixed bag. Marathon 2 was my least favorite of the trilogy, the story isn't as compelling as M1, and the levels aren't as architectually interesting as M Infinity. Some of the levels later in this game are great though, and all the background info on the S'pht you discover in their tower is really interesting. Also, I like the new HD textures, but I hate the look of the "improved" enemies. And bumping the game up to 60 fps does make it kind of a dizzying experience. But bring on Marathon 1 and Marathon Infinity!

No thanks. About 70% of the indie games have been trash. I'd rather have proven classics with HD graphics and online multiplayer.
