What do you recommend for my first Xbox-360 game?

So, i'm getting an xbox 360 finally, now that i have an hdtv. But, being the games are so expensive, i can only afford one game. And its killing me! What would you recommend? I'm thinking Elder Scrolls IV or Gears of War, but seeing as I never played either of them myself i can't say...so what do you think? thanks

Both of those are great games but I would recommend Gears.

next im going to buy a game bundle off ebay. i seen pg3, saints row, dead rising,and graw for 50 bucks plus 10 bucks shipping

in my opinion it would just be better to go with oblivion just because of its longevity(or w/e the word is). gears however, has multiplayer so thats always good.

if you dont plan on taking it on live, just get oblivion 

Gears of War or Oblivion. Both are great games. Pick whichever one suits your taste in games.

 And if don't want any of those, just go get good ol' Dead Rising.

if you like ur RPG's go with oblivion. if you like your  shooters go with raimbow 6 vegas, cod2, cod3 or gears.

my first game on the 360 was cod2 & i still play it. i play it more than i play cod3.

but the choice is yours

If you want:

Shooter: Gears, maybe PDZ (I love it, but not alot of other people do, I would rent it first)

Driving: Forza 2 for sim style, PGR3 or Burnout Revenge for Arcade Style

Role Playing: Oblivion

Survival Horror: Dead Rising (really a great game)

Misc: Viva Pinata (also a great game)

One of those games would start you off right.  I myself would probably recommend Dead Rising, you should also probably download some demos off live in case you get bored with the one game you do decide to get.

i think oblivion would be better because its has more to offer than gears ive beaten both(well not oblivion thats has like a billion quest) oblvion has better gameplay, graphics, storyline, and its like 200 hours and gears has like 15 haha but get gears its better for the thrill seeker but id get oblivion oh w8 i did lol

I'd say COD4 if you like shooters.

If you like RPGs, go for Fallout 3 or Tales of Vesperia. If you don't then maybe The Orange Box will be a good start.
