I tried out the original Fallout, when GameTap was free and didn't like it at all. That game isn't even a little forgiving to newcomers; I hate games like that.

I've never played the original Fallout games, but i think it's safe to say Fallout 3 is a lot better. I also can't wait for New Vegas, this game is going to be beast. With Fallout 3, i played till the early morning hours, i had to force myself to stop playing. The same will happen with New Vegas, day one buy.

fallout 3 is awesome....so will be new vegas if i can get my dad to let me get it yeah aye. Haha hopefully things work out and you get it. Just say you shoot mutated creatures or something. Would really suck if you had to miss out on such an awesome game.

There are quite a few games out there that are based largely on text/dialogue and numbers. See every point-and-click adventure game, every text based adventure game, and many JRPGs/PC-RPGs. Action in RPGs is actually a recent development; a lot of early RPGs were a lot like the original Fallouts.
I would probably appreciate the original Fallouts if they were just a little more newb-friendly. If you haven't read a guide or haven't before played the game, you're screwed because it present too many hidden opporunities to get destroyed or lost in the beginning.
