I think it was to be expected, because if microsoft really wanted to sell hd dvd they would have made the hd-dvd drive standard in the console instead of as an add on. As for blu ray the players are getting cheaper, but my main problem with it is that it holds 50 gigs. Thats a lot of information to load over a relatively short period of time. That and emerging movie and television shows are being more and more available for download at various places like xbox live. And people say that blu ray has won but it still has to fight standard dvd whose prices are drasticly cheaper than blu ray. The only thing that will really set me over to blu would be them getting transformers and the bourne series etc. The next year should be interesting to say the least.Kakua_Omari
exactly. blu-ray has 50 gigs, but only runs like 2x! thats why the PS3 has to install some of its games. (DMC4)
Honestly, I don't mind the install times of PS3 blu-ray games. They make in game load times shorter and increase in-game texture resolution.
HDDVD failed for one reason and one reason only- it was not included in all 360s.
The PS3 enabled people to get a blu ray player relatively cheap in addition to the game console itself... making people invest in blu-ray even though they wouldn't have otherwise.
blu-ray slower than hd-dvd? i didn't know that. thanks for letting me know! :)skyyfox1
HDDVD is superior in nearly every way, except total capacity. Even that doesn't matter since it could compress way better.
My thoughts are that it's a pity, once again, a superior product falls due to marketing and propaganda.

Well ALL of that is irrelevant now. Explain how HD DVD was superior.
I think this is bad for us xbox 360 owners because recently Toshiba announced there pullout in the DVD wars...... Also I don't want to buy a Blu-ray player and the blu-ray itself cause its so dam expensive I mean $500 just for the player is ridiculous....d-DanGerous
DVD players were very expensive when they first came out too. That's just how technology is, the price will keep going down over time. Blu-Ray players were like a $1,000 when they first came out, now you can get them for about $400. High-def TV's were about $10,000 when they first came out. Now you can get a big old Sony XBR for about $3,500, and that would eat any those old $10,000 TV's alive.
And if you were to get a Blu-Ray player, just get a PS3. It's more capable than stand-alone Blu-Ray players, and it plays video games!
As you can see from my avatar I don't beleive in pulling out. jmartin1016
Haha, that gave me a good laugh.
What do I think? The average Joe Gamer isn't going to care.
I can't think of many 360 gamers that actually went for the HD-DVD drive, probably because they already had dedicated high definition players in their homes already, or were happy with upscaling standard DVDs. In fact I can't think of many people that actually watch DVDs on their 360 either.
Sure, it's bad. But only for Microsoft, and the ones who actually bought the HD-DVD drive. Other 360 users probably won't even care. They'll continue to play their games on Live. Games will still be released. This won't stop until the next-gen is over, which it won't be for a while.
Some argue that the PS3 has won the console wars already by this, and I'd rather not get into a lengthy discussion about which console is better.
