GTA 3

enough said, this game blew everything out of the water at the time. Why can't a game that good in comparison to everything else come out now?

Grim Fandango. I showed how 3D adventure games should be done. Great characters, awesome story and for the time some really good graphics that didn't even require a graphics card

hmm. i think bioshock is great, but nothing like it? I think its exactly what you'd expect a well designed new DeusEx to look like (in a new setting)

Half-Life. It brought the first person shooter to a whole new level. Plus, it proved that a shooter/game can have a very involved and detailed story. It made gaming almost cinematic.

Yes. Too bad nobody knows how to enjoy a good story anymore. Even Dreamfall is going downhill from where TLJ started.

Mario 64... I remember the first time I held the controller and moved that little plumber around. Goldeneye, in my opinion was the first console FPS to show it could be done and done well.

Baldur's Gate I & II, showed just how deep RPG's could go in story, character development and choices. Diablo II, still to this day I haven't played an action RPG as good as this. System Shock 2, Deus Ex, showed just how deep a FPS could go, both in game play and stories. C&C, Warcraft II and Starcraft all created a very addicting experience.

I could go on and on, as there have been so many across all platforms... But I'm out of time.

Raizo138

Besides it's story telling, I didn't see anything revolutionary about Metal Gear Solid. Or any of the games in the series for that matter.

Halo. Every fps since then has coppied something from that revolutionary game whether it be the health regeneration, multiplayer options, customization options, weapon carrying system, etc.
