Can someone please explain to me what the HDMI does to enhance the Elite. I understand the 120gb hard drive for people that need that, but I'm not quite sure what the HDMI will add.

1. If you own a HD-DVD add on will the HDMI allow you to experience movies in true HD 1080p?

2. Does it enhance games in any way?

3. Does the Elite upscale DVD's? Does the premium not already do this?

4. Does the Elite give you access to special downloadable HD content that the Premium does not?

I know this has probably been discussed alot, but I've been away from the 360 forums for a while. Please no smarta$$ statements. Only the facts. Thanks.

I dont think HDMI will do you any good if you dont own a  HDTV 42" or larger
all xbox games are 720p native at the moment, sure  if your tv has 1080p native resolution than yeah the games will look a bit better but its not a huge difference man

i dont have a HD dvd add on and i dont really watch movies on my xbox 360.i only play games.so im not sure about the true 1080p ,maybe someone else can you help you out with that.personally i think HDMI is useless

and no Elite does not give you access to any special downloadable HD contente..thats silly

it ads a port for people who have a Screen with a HDMI port so they can connect.

1080P can also be done with other cables (vga and component)

HDMI is esigned to provide a highspeed digital connection from your device to another to provide highest quality sound and visuals. On the 360 the digital pathway doesnt exist so the visuals will be no better than vga, and the highend sound functions HDMI uses are either not included (as 360 uses an old verion of HDMI) or not supported.

it's true that HDMI will be used much more in the future and is able to transport losless sound in 7.1.

It's pure digital. Component is analog. But you will not notice much difference between component 1080P and HDMI 1080P. Movie fanatics prefer component, cause they think hdmi is too digital... you must have hawk eyes to notice the difference though

Yup. All the experts agree that VGA achieves picture quality on par with HDMI. Component is good too, and to really notice any difference between the three (especially between VGA and HDMI), you'd have to be a trained picture quality adjuster. Go to CNET.com, they have a pretty comprehensive article on HD and all the different hookups.

If you have both your HDMI port and component input properly calibrated, there is no difference in picture quality between HDMI and Component.

The HDMI port will upscale movies to 1080p, as will the VGA adaptor.
