I have an LG 42 inch 1080P hi Def TV and I have an option in my Xbox menu for Reference Levels, what exactly does that mean and would I damage the TV if I selected expanded in the reference level's setting?

Well i've wondered that as well before and i think it just affects 480p resolution... It may make the black level darker though if you are using 720p/1080i/p.

ooo you have 1080p.. It shouldn't affect it.. you should be fine with it on or off.

I've selected expanded... it doesn't seem to hurt the TV in any way. The graphics are sharp and it's not flashing or anything like that... besides I've got 3 years insurance lol

I could be wrong, but it is probably the black level.

Most LCDs and to the lesser extend plasmas have issues with displaying true black, so this option is intended to compensate for this issue.

The best way to see the difference between options would be select the game with a lot of shadows/dark areas (Bioshock or Gears of War come to mind) and see how different options affect the detail that you see in the shadows.

I think I do see a little difference with Bioshock, but it could be my eyes messing with me, I'm just keeping it on expanded, it doesn't seem to hurt the screen in any shape or form.

It should not damage your tv in any form. The only setting to watch out for is Contrast/Picture for CRT(tube) type of displays. If it set too high, Contrast/Picture can significantly reduce the lifespan of these type of sets.
