Everyone has their opinions on which game takes the most skill to be a threat online.

High ranks in all these games are hard to take down, well maybe except COD. :P

If were talking console wise, without a doubt its the halo series. But if you mean FPS as an overall genre, probably counter strike or quake.

To be honest i think that the question is almost impossible to answer. If you are talking about the whole game, not neccesarily the multiplayer, then its still difficult. Operation Flashpoint (Both of them), probably take the most getting used to, however once you get the hang of it, not a whole lot of expertise is required. For multiplayer, due the HUGE amount of people that play call of duty i am slightly thinking that expertise is required for that. I guess if i had to pick i would say battlefield bad company 2 is the current game with the most expertise required, as things like flying helicopters etc are needed and other players will really get frustrated with you if you do not know howw to.

Halo takes the most skill, but each iteration of the series has required less skill. Counter-Strike probably required more skill than any/all of these though, but that's PC.

Out of those, Gears. But I'd say Monday Night Combat and Team Fortress 2 both take more skill than all of them.

the Battlefield games IMO because I think the benefits of teamwork are drastically increase the effectiveness of the teams performance, medics revive fallen teammates, assault class drops ammo, demolition takes out armor and repairs vehicles... and snipers are great because they can load ATVs with C4 and work best for taking out armor... but yeah teamwork is essential, and there's so many ways to get your team to work together effectively, every game requires skill though when playing competitively

Battlefield hands down, it actually requires teamwork. I would say Halo comes next simply because of how it takes longer to kill people, but with Reach and all of ther armor lockers and campers it takes a lot of the skill away imo.

Definitely Halo, especially Halo 2. I hope no one says CoD. That's just comical.

Halo is up there with Gears, but why?...

Playing gears 2 for a while I realized how easy it was to nade tag walls and 2 piece. Hopefully they edge these techniques out in the 3rd addition.

I would go with Halo. In most online shooters, whomever see each other first usually gets the kill. I really haven't experienced that with Halo.

Halo definitely takes more skill than most especially Call of Duty. At least in Halo, if someone gets the jump on you or fires first you have a chance to recover and win the engagement. In Call of Duty, you have almost no chance. Lots more camping in Duty as well...

Of the games that I've played, from hardest to easiest:

1) Rainbow Six Vegas series

2) Battlefield Bad Company series

3) Halo series

distant, distant 4) COD series.

I only put COD on the list because it's a shooter I've played. Literally anyone can be good at that game with the right weapons and an hour of playtime.

Quake 3, by far the trickiest to play 'well'. On consoles, probably Team Fortress 2 or MAG simply due to the fact that if you don't play as a team you will get the snot beaten out of you.

On your list, definitely Halo for me (if we're talkin about online multiplayer) it's really hard to keep a streak whether you're playin lone wolves or a team match, and the flow of the game is perfect unlike Cod which seems a bit too fast with people running everywhere like Road Runner :P

Although people have the ability to sprint in Halo Reach now, it's still not that fast

Now if we're talkin about a game not on your list, I'd say Vanquish on hard mode, this fast paced shooter is pumped with action

I'd say a tactical shooter, like GRAW or Rainbow Six Vegas. The arcade like shooters in the poll don't take long to get the hang of. Something that requires strategy and thought, rather than who gets the first shot.

When are people gonna stop calling Gears a FPS?Black_Knight_00

Well on the GeoW3 beta you can ADS with the hammerburst so I'd call it a FPS game.
:P
I'd say Battlefield takes the most skill from those listed.

Yeah I should of just put shooter, I just lost track of what even individual game was and I put shooter games, not remembering that I had "FPS" in the title; my mistake.

But thats not the point really, and most people in the thread seemed to understand what I was really asking...

Nevertheless, I feel like with battlefield games, individual skill can be easily canceled by teamwork.

Two of the best plays can't beat a team with 8 team members that know what they're doing.

Each of the other games listed I've witnessed players carrying their teams with 90% of the kills.

A useless team on that game will always be your demise, thats what I've learned through playing that game at least.

Just how I look at it :D
