The best, in general? Geeze, you could be more specific.
I've had a lot of fun with The Orange Box. A lot of the buzz has died down around it, but Half-Life 2 and Portal are still stellar. And if you're looking for cheap, Gun, a launch game for the 360, was a copius amount of fun for me.
Personally I'd see GTA IV as I literally couldn't put it down. The multiplayers pretty good aswell but I'm guessing you have no internet/live or something so you want a good single player game. I'd go for GTA IV as it's not just a storyline, its a sandbox game so you can have loads of fun even after you've completed the game :).

Exactly!It was a great game...but was crippled by the miniscule text(on a sdtv),and some bad design choices
