Not necessarily true - 1 or 2 good players on an otherwise mediocre team can turn a game around very quickly. You are correct in that it requires a good team though, but a lot of the skill involved is the skill required to work as a team successfully.

Yea I agree if your team doesnt work good together your pretty much screwed unless the other team is just like yours.I always support my team with a sniper or I will play as a soldier or demoman or pyro and just help out my team mates Im really good at takeing out turrets with almost everyclass
hmm, well to be perfectly honest, I would say that Supreme Commander requires the most skill. Now I understand arguments for harder games like NG2 or DMC4 on Hell and Hell mode, but Supreme Commander requires a ridiculously large amount of knowledge from the player, lots of attentiveness to a ton of different factors, and to top it all off, the enemy AI is very intelligent, and can easily best you even on EASY. Lots of games require practice, but in my opinion, Supreme Commander requires true skill.
I've always loved the challenge of Ninja Gaiden Black and I recently just completed 2. NGB has been by far the most challenging as of late. If you wanna talk old school, mega man! That game makes me wanna flip kick my T.V.!
The "play a real instrument" insult is getting really old. By your logic, if guitar hero players should "play a real instrument", then FPS players should join a real army.
