A lot of threads ask about the best/worst games you've played. I want to know what games you reluctantly gave a chance and were pleasantly surprised? Any game on any console/system/PC. For me it was Civilization Revolution-I was addicted to the demo! Also, Saints Row, and Condemned. I was surprised by Soul Calibur IV because I usually don't play fighting games. It's depth is fairly impressive. I picked it up because it was only $10.

I was surprised at how good Wolverine is. Movie based games rarely are as good as it is.

None so far I purchase games after knowing just about everything about them. Though I guess Braid because I expected it to be an ok game but it turned out great.

I was surprised how gloomy and depressing 'The Godfather' was. The music was all sad and the lightings were dark, but I guess it's just like the films.

Battlefield Bad Company. It is so much fun. Multiplayer makes you feel you actually are on a battlefield.

Gears of war has definatly suprised me, by being so bad, horrible plot, even worse wultiplayer. And the game engine is so overrated. I feeel bad wasting money on getting it >.> i even bought the limited edition. just goes to show you don't believe any reviews saying how "good" the game is :@

Halo 3 ad oblivion are some of the rare games that you would play over and over again! I can't believe you would trash talk those games. You know Halo 3 is so awesome! It's still topping the daily Xbox live activity list! You need to learn what games that need a trash talking, your just sad.

I went into SH: Homecoming expecting one of my favourite franchises to be ruined. Well, I was pleasantly surprised that the storyline still felt like a Silent Hill story. I miss the wonky camera angles though. I'm also glad they didn't overruse pyramid head just to please some people. Throughout the game I kept saying to myself "ok, pyramid head will probably come rollin around the corner now". A little sad though, because he actually strikes fear into you now with his SH movie look rather than the SH2 'normal man man with a pyramid on his head' look.

I've never really been surprised by how good a game is, but on multiple occasions I've been surprised at how bad the game is (Assassin's Creed, Oblivion, and Fallout to name a few). If I have to give an example, it'd probably be Left 4 Dead. I wasn't expecting much out of it, but playing with four friends locally is a hoot.

Riddick, I saw it and thought I might try it. Now I am hooked on Butcher Bay. I had never even heard of it before.

Call of duty 3. Alot of people gave it a bad rep so I ended up renting the game and loving it. Then I finally ended up buying the game. The biggest one was probably Perfect Dark Zero. ALOT of people hated that game so I ended up buying it for dirt cheap one day and Loved it ever since.

Mass Effect, Fallout 3, Braid, Fable 2, Tom Clancy Endwar. all surprised me on how good they were.

Red Alert 3, was a game that i was initially highly anticipating, but once i got through the campaigns, it just lost it's shine. it's online multiplayer is just like every other RTS on the market.

Left 4 Dead was a big one for me. I was so out of the loop on that one, I didnt know about it until about a week before its release. I got the demo, fell in love immediatly and baught the game right away on release. Been responsible for many many lost hours ever since.

Ive actually got Civ: Revolution on the way now too. Im excited to try it, anybody who's actually played it seems to rave.

I found Mercenaries 2 surprisingly addictive (destructable environment, loads of easy ways to earn money) despite it's awful reviews

Crackdown also surprised me as I knew very little about the game until I rented it for two days and subsequently purchased.

Splinter Cell Double Agent - I got the game for single player stealth but had loads of fun in the multiplayer. Totally unexpected and turned out to be really good.

Bioshock and Mirror's Edge. They were cheap so I decided to buy them after looking at reviews and gameplay movies. Bioshock turned out to be my favourite game!! , but mirror's edge was still good (8/10)

Viking Battle for Asguard.

I usually don't like hack and slash games. And this game got horrible reviews and nobody liked it. But I played it and I loved it! :)

Mercenaries, that blew away my humble expectations. As did Oblivion, which has hooked me on RPGs ever since.

Definitely The Darkness. I had a few bucks left over from getting COD4 so I decided to get another game. The Darkness looked ok so I got it. When I started plaing it, it was so much fun, I stayed up all night playing it.

Dead Space was a game that surprised me. How in the world can a sci-fi horror game that takes place in outer space and be scary? Dead Space was simply incredible. It was a very good game. I was very surprised to see how good that turned out.
