It seems since the dashboard update that introduced avatars my Xbox no longer makes the achievement noise or shows the achievement unlocked notification when I get an achievement. I've searched high and low for a way to turn it back on and I can't find anything. So is it just my xbox or has it been removed or what? Can someone please enlighten me.

It might just be your 'box. Do you keep your audio level avarage or a little loud? I'm always pissing my GF off 'cuz I love my games loud. Anyway I just got an achievement last night and I heard that simple, wonderful sound.

I play with my audio on a decent level but even if it was a volume issue I should still be able to see the notification without any issues, but that also fails to show up.

Well it's I'm just so used to hearing it and it's nice to know when I've unlocked certain achievements without having to go fumbling around in the menu. Plus it's strangely sort of a rewarding sound to hear after chasing after those hard to get achievements. I remember saying "YES!" out loud when I heard it after unlocking the Zombie Genocide achievement in Dead Rising.

Don't pay any attention to THAT guy. I think a lot of us 'Box owners would care. I know there have been times I have not seen or heard the notification but I still get it. Usually it's at the end of a game or when it's loadingthe next level or something. It just has never been more than once in a while.

Have you checked your Notifications settings? Hit yourLIVE/GUIDE button and move over to Settings, scroll down to Notifications and make sure all are checked. If they are and you still don't get the achievement notifs., I have no idea what next to suggest.

I don't think there's anyway to turn them on and off. You could go super old school and try completely disconnecting your 360 from any power source and see if that resets it. I mean, it's a long shot, but it's a long shot that takes 30 seconds. There aren't any options to turn Achievement notifications on or off.

Somehow it seems to me that a girlfriend is quite a bit more important than a video game, plus she can walk away a lot quicker than a box, so you may want to think about playing nice and keeping the volume down.

Not that I need to justify anything to a condescending stanger but I like EVERYTHING at a nice higher-than-normal volume. This includes music, tv and movies. That probably will not change except for the worse as I start to lose my hearing at old age. If she decides to leave me over that then I think we have more fundamental relationship problems, pal.

Thanks for the two-bit advice though ... you can have your change back.
