[QUOTE="hscream13"]graphics will improve so much that we would look fakeThe_Fell_One
That doesn't even make sense.
relax he was jkI'm actually drafting out a storyline where games have come to a point where they're indistinguishable from real life. Short and tall of it is, A Freelance game tester is asked to test out a new game and he wakes up and is told he's inside the game and kills someone... when in reality, he was in the real world and is now on the run from the law and has to try and clear his name against this "ghost" videogame company...
it's very very very very early and right now, it's just a random idea that I may or may not develop. It depends on the market and what I think would sell. I came up with the concept when my dad was playing a football game and my grandfather walked in and asked, "who's playing"
If we do finally get to the point where all graphics on all systems are better than photorealistic, looking like real people in motion, I would hope that we would finally stop the graphics wars and focus on new and interesting gameplay elements. After all, with graphics like that, you could take anybody anywhere and make the experience hyper-real.
1. EnigmaticBeautySig is hilarious
2. when it goes to that level i think you can integrate yourself in to the game much like TW08 but more sophisticated. Where even your voice can be a part of the game.

Thank You
I won't be soon for that to happen... I remember when the Sega CD came out in 92? and everyone was like "This looks amazing! Whatever comes out next is going to look so freaking real!" Sure there will be a time in the far future than some of it will look real but that doesn't mean the graphics can't improve. It could improve by making more go on at once. An example of that is having a scene in a game that looks real but it only has 3 people on screen at a time... then another console will come out further in the future than that and will have 1000 real looking people... then other console with 1,000,000. While all this happens tv resolutions would go up more than HD. Graphics will continue to get better with every generation even if it seems there is no way for it to at times. Eventually the limiting factor could possibly be money and man power rather than console power. That would end up causing the stop in improving graphics, not technology.
Edit: if some of that doesn't make sense just ignore it... I'm sleep deprived at the moment :P
What worries me is what is are right wing religious nuts, or douches like Jack Thompson going to do when shooters get that realistic? I honestly think the general public (non video game players) may start to buy into that bullcrap propaganda when the games are so real it truely looks like your blasting someones head off.unmach
Good point. I'm sure there would be a lot of opposition from people like that. Don't think all "right wing religious nuts" think that way though... I am one and I don't think that way :P

If you haven't seen it already, you should check out the movie "Brainscan." It's an older movie(1994, I think), but it has a somewhat similar concept to what you're talking about. And it's a halfway decent flick in it's own right. ;)
Well, the graphics could look better than real life. Because right now I can only focus on a few people, and everyone not in that focus are kind of blurry, not in focus. In video games everything is in focus.
Also graphics may look the same but it will be many years before they get the AI to be even close to real life

Hope I didn't offend, looking at the smily i'll assume its okay. I have no problem w/ religion, spirituality is cool. Its these people that believe they can control other peoples lives. Like the people who got lap dances banned in states in the US. Or Jack Thompson thinking he can wipe his ass with our freedom of speech and attempt to stop any video game he pleases from being released. I heard on the radio a group of people who are trying to get 40 ounce beers outlawed in California as they see it as too much for one container to hold. It seems these people tend to use relgion as there argument for stripping everyone of their rights. And so thats who that comment was geared to. I do realize there are many religious people who do not think that way :)
That honestly is a very good question and I don't even know how to answer that. I'm sure it'll very scary though. Given that thought, would we even need actors any more?SecretWasianMan
Well that won't happen in our lifetime..thank goodness lol
Programmed personalities...yaye :S

Oh, I wasn't offended at all. If something like that offended me then I wouldn't ever speak in OT... I just wanted to make sure you didn't think all religious people thought like that.

Thanks. I don't think I have seen it, but I haven't even done any home work for it yet. If I did develop it more, I'd have to see how and where I can put some originality into the concept. It really was a random idea, I store them for later use lol.

In fact, the "left-wing bleeding hearts" are just as bad. Joseph Lieberman and Tipper Gore? They were pretty big into censorship of video games as well.

I'm sorry... but the graphics cannot look better than real life!!...........REAL life is as good as it get ther no more after real life.
Honestly, I never see graphics ever getting to that point even coming close to it. IF a big IF we get to that point the rest of the world will be so ruined it would not matter. At the point we get to that point we have testing already with babies to alter them to what you wish. So your daughter could be pre made to be a super model or you can spend money to make sure your son has the ability and body for a football star.
Games in the future I can see going into more a very extensive VR type experience where you will have two lives one for "games" and then life. Where most everyone interacts in this VR type world where you get to choose who you are and what you look like. Then due to issues with duping or faking to be someone else we will find hardlocks in what you can choose to look like and then most everyone will use this alternative place to meet and greet.
However In most any form you see this kind of technology you also see a society in shambles is because as technology and science improves our ethics sadly do not. So like I previously said right now we have genetics altering your babies in cosmetics and soon with our diseases. Then when you have a baby naturally and others are able to pay to make sure there babies are perfectly healthy and will not have a illness. Then you will have other problems then just graphics in games.

LOL that happened when my sister asked while i was playing NBA 2K8
When video games achieve true photo-realism, a vile dictator will rise to power and use an editing program to create his ideal Master Race - anyone who doesn't match his vision will be forced into the Electronic Arts Quality Auditing department, where we shall forever play-test and ignore program bugs.

What wrong with babies that are perfectly healthy:|. If i knew my baby could have a chance of having a really bad birth deffect,I would do anything, pay anything so he or she can be healthy.
I think there will be room for improvement for awhile, we are a long way from truly real graphics like that. We'll probably continue to advance much the way we are, (little improvements at a time like) and I believe gameplay, story and music will start to play a bigger role as gamers are starting to demand it.
The real big jump will come with Quantum computing, it would probably take a processer much like the human brain to process everything to actual real life quality.

Well, The problem from babies being healthy is insurance. No insurance is going to insure a child that is naturally going to have problems instead of ones we for know will not have problems as well as employers.
For simple standards lets say GB for genetical baby and NB for natural born. Now the GB's will have a guaranteed ability with money and we are talking only the rich will be able to afford the GB's but they will be smarter, far more suited to there roles and also healthier then the NB.
You would be able to make the perfect football star childern the perfect soccer childern. The NB's in life would have no way to complete with them on a psychical issue at all in any sense of the word.
Also, If you have a business and you have to pay for our empolyes when they have sick leave and you loose money by using your company insurance all the time with the NB's wouldn't you not want to go with the GB for all your company so your company spends less on sick leave, less on insurance not to mention the children are genetically spliced them selves to be better workers in how well they work.
So in closing, Think of it like this if you can alter your childern for one little thing like a health problem and can not afford but will become a terminal illness guaranteed later in life. And when the information goes to your employers and insurance you can not get hired or get insurance the natural born kids are now second rate citizens to a new breed of genetic humans. This is far off for more then just looks and body build.
But right now if you have the money there are experiments right now willing to change the sex, and looks of your kids for high prices.

We humans think we're smart, but we are not. Your baby might not be born with a defect, but what consequences are you playing with and don't understand. How do you not know that birth defect wasn't supposed to be there? For some reason that are little brains probably can't comprehend.

Great game,
As a future social psychologist. That is one of my main personal fears we will come into more of in the future. Is all this genetic tampering what kind of new psychical but also mental problems will we come in to. We already are trying to link Schizophrenia with some drugs and treatments people are going through now.
The best case of science changing with humans I think is cancer. Cancer to the best of my knowledge was very rare or even a non issue a thousand years ago. Only now that with science we can live much longer then 40-50 are we now seeing cancer in people in older ages that perviously most people died long before they even hit 60.
Anyone interested in this should check out the movie Gattaca. (wicked flick, the GB / NB thing totally brought it back)BongMonkey
That's where alot of this kind of genetics stuff for me really peaked was in that movie, I agree deffintly worth renting for people to see.
They're getting close...

Holy...that looked really close to reality...
The only thing that gave it away that it was a game is that they couldnt do her face right, the emotions ya know?
But thats really messed up, sucks it's a PS3 exclusive, I dont have enough cash to blow on that after my 360elite.
