I was going though the marketplace and made a list of all the things I want to buy, excluding DL content, it comes to 8,400 points. It got me wondering what everyone thinks about the point system that MS has created for the marketplace. How much have you spent? Do you think its overpriced? I guess I am just wondering what everyones overall impressions of it is. To me, it seems some of the things are a bit overpriced, though to be prefectly honest, I'm very cheap.

Well, points are just a less vulgar way for them to seperate you from your money. 80 MS funbux are worth 1$. Just like regular money though, some things are worth your coin and some arent. 8400pts are worth 105$, and if youre looking at Indie games thats 105 games :P But thats quantity over quality. Im usually wary about buying games online unless i really research them first. Especially since its so easy to go overboard when they already have your credit card info :o Ive bought maybe a dozen to 20 arcade games and about as many Indie games. I dont regret many of them though.

Compared to services like steam it's Way overpriced. For 10 bucks I could get dead space 1 and 2 (that's 800 ms points) good luck finding a deal like that on xbl. That being said I have 4000 point balance currently and probably spent 100 bucks total on xbl

Yeah, I don't ever plan to use a bank or credit card. I have heard too many horror stories to chance it. Prepaid cards all the way.

This is true I changed my card number the xbox has the old one so I'm a bit relieved by that. On the points I just wished It would use the currency from which it's being seen. Like instead of 800 MS points it would be just $10 or however much 800 points are. Other than that I don't really have a problem (besides games on demand pricing) I've wasted probably around $150 on two games on demand and a couple arcade games. I enjoy the service overall.

I'm at 24,460 points spent. That's like $300 at 4000 points for $50. But I've never payed more than $1 for 100 points and I've gotten a ton of free points through Bing and from Microsoft rewards.

when 360 came out. ms points is very bad, Prices was designed to make u end with odd nums, you could only buy 1600 points+ ect ect but now it's better, You can buy points off the 360 in 400's, prices isn't odd ect ect. NOW with that said crap is over priced. gamer pics can range $1-$3 BUT really how hard is it to copy and crop a pic and download to the marketplace? 20 mins of work? Themes $1-5. That become useless every fall update

So far I've spent maybe 5600-8000 points (I don't remember how many I bought Xmas '10). I feel that a lot of items are a bit overpriced, but otherwise I'm somewhat satisfied with MS points.

Microsoft needs to get rid of the points system. Stop trying to deceive customers into spending more and just give us the actual amount in actual currency. Sony uses regular dollars for the PSN store, why can't Microsoft for the Xbox Live Marketplace?

I remember a similar topic from a couple of years ago. Back then I'd already spent over 50,000. I've slowed right down now, not having any time to play games anymore helps :P

Its funny this question has come up. I was just looking at my download history and wow ive spent alot of points. Now is it just me. The reason for xbox live was to keep production costs down..well if you compare the price of online games versus the price at your local used game store and even at times at any store the prices are the same price. I dont know about you but i rather have a hard copy that will not max out my hard drive than a virtual copy. As far as the the arcade games i play maybe 1 out of the 10 ive down loaded... MS points are over priced...way over priced. I wish i could get a refund for half the crap i bought

I like the concept of points for one reason only - they're MUCH more likely to get discounted as accessories in stores. I can't count the number of times I've gotten discounted points, recently picking them up for basically half price. Also, I've spent a LOT. According to my e-mails of redeemed cards I've spent about 40k in Microsoft points.

I wish they would just go with real money value. It profits them to keep the MS points crap though.

As far as how much ive spent? Im not tottally sure, but I checked the other day and have 108 games downloaed that ive bought. Its a mix of cheap indie games (mostly the old school rpgs) , xbl arcade games, and a few old xbox originals. Id guess ive spent near 300$ bucks or so...just a ballpark guess though.

It is a genius move for them financially. They bank off of all of it. I know people who has changed their gamertags 10+ times. That right there is 8000 points per person. I do like the marketplace though. It allows me to pcik things up without using a credit card etc. How else will you get DLC for games?

Yeah, I don't like the idea of using a credit card either. The reason I said excluding DLC is because i"m not a big fan of it. I can't say never, but I doubt I'll ever buy DLC for a game I have bought. I will just use my points for games. I just got Castle Crashers and love it.
