the shooter genre has become so plain and boring over the years, it's the same thing with different guns and a story, we need more!

list some ideas you might have about making the shooter genre more fun, and NEW!

thanks,

u can't really revolutionize them too much.

shooter: u got some guns, u shoot some guys to get to a point....then again, but a shooter is always better if it has a good story!

imo i think physics will have to do a lot with revolutionizing the shooter genre, i mean wouldn't it be great to shoot anything and be able to change the environment and use it ur advantage in millions of different ways?

Half-life 2 pretty much already did that to an extent.

Some elements of other genres like platforming and adventure, I think Metroid Prime pulled this off ver well. Change is good, as Gears of War clearly shows. Run-of-the-mill shooters like Medal of Honour just don't cut it anymore, shooting games need a flair to appeal.

i think physics and third person shooters would revolutionize shooters. also a more realistic shooter would be good. imagine if you are running and then you get shot in the leg and walk with a limp. or you are duel wielding and you get shot in a hand so you can only use one gun or your aim with the second gun gets bad. also with no reticule for more realistic aiming...the only guns with a reticule would be the ones with scopes and only when zoomed. i think it would show who really has skill and make for a fun and challenging game.

i also think a sniper game would be awesome though some may think it would be boring waiting for a target to come and finding a good place to hide.

whatever happened to red faction 2 that was such a good game with amazing physics. they should really make a third one for next gen consoles.

^ so you mean deus ex (not invisible war) for pc they did almost all of that

p.s. if you want to play without a reticle most games let you turn it off.

I would say that 16 players in gears of war would help, also being able fly an airplane or shooter plane in halo or gears of war, there would be a pilot and a shooter, that would elevate the level of gamework. It would be fun to have that type of feature in halo 2 and gears of war. Maybe shooters should have vehicles that require 5 people to operate, that would require team work taking shooters like halo and gears of war fun.

That was my thought, if you thought that was stupid i apologize.

Well, Half-Life did the first revolution. Then System Shock and Deus Ex did one. Then I'd have to say Bioshock took that further. And it looks like Fallout 3 will do the next.

Large scale battles. I would like to fight in a battle with hundreds of men in one battalion charging in order to overwhelm the enemy. That would be really cool.

What they need to do know is not try to add on more thing to do in a first peson shooter but perfect what they have. Guns And aiming in most Fps are almost perfect but Team based tactics & other things like leaning on walls, crouch running, Vehicals Or Even the AI in most Games could use more tweeking. But to revolutionize a Fps Would be next to Impossible(Not saying it can't be Done)

I think games like Gears of War, Rainbow Six Vegas, and GRAW 2 are making the genre extremely realistic. And Halo is realistic if something like that really happened.I think games like Call of Duty are holding the genre back, its suppose to be like real war, but come on real people can't recharge their health like MC.

Yea agreed, being able to participate in a REAL battle with hundreds or more combatants on each side would be quite cool. I myself (and quite a few other people I would suspect) am getting tired of your run of the mill corridor shooter. Or you could do what Bioshock is doing and mix genres. A little bit of RPG and FPS looks to be a unique combo. Not really sure exactly what developers could do to make the shooter genre less stale, but they should probably do something quick. I and many other people have been sick of the average shooter for some time.

also i think more interactive maps would be cool. like for instance a map that was like a street with buildings that ppl can go into. and have it where one team starts on one side and one on the other. so there is a four way intersection and a building at each corner with one side of each main street belonging to each team. i feel that more urban environments involving buildings will force gamers to use more strategy. places for ppl to snipe from will help ppl have special roles in helping to invade the other base. for example one person snipes the other sniper then have a grenadier to blow down the front door and have a couple guys storm the base while others cover them from their own base. this seems to be coming more into play when you look at high ground for halo 3 which has a base and sniper positions. i really like the idea of having a place to hold down or invade.

also interactivity with object like being able to flip a table on its side and using it for cover and things to that nature. not just having gas tanks all over the place...not very realistic.

as you can tell i like sniping.
