Call of Duty 4, Rainbow Six Vegas, Halo 3. Take your pick, they're all good. Call of duty and Halo are the most played games, they're a more run and gun. Rainbow is more tactical, people focus more on teamwork and communication. Gears of War is another good one, but it's only 8 player max. I haven't played that one in a while, so someone else might be able to tell you more. Those are the ones I've played, I'm sure there's some more good ones out there, though.
I'm really enjoying BFBC. It has some gameplay flaws in terms of under- and overpowered weapons but other than that it's really fun. It also has 24 player support which makes online-games really fun. :)
cod4 is really. i still havent played halo 3 but i hear its good as well.
gears is tough to recommend for me because its really hard to find matches that wont dissconnect on you. also the game has a lot of bugs and lag online. however local was pretty good.
you can wait till november and get the new cod or gears 2 if they fix the online.
