I just got into FPSs, and after playing Modern Warfare, Halo, and BioShock, I'm looking to see what I should play next. I am considering Rainbow Six: Vegas, but I am wondering, how does this "tactical" part alter the gameplay in relation to what I have played? Thanks!

Tactical shooters move at a more methodical pace. You have to plan your tactics (hence the term tactical shooter) before attacking. It's not just run n gun like Halo.

Tactical FPS is more team oriented in a way that it requires you to set up your team appropriately before each mission with distinctive roles and have them at the most efficient position to take out opposition. The gameplay pace is usually slow and you won't find your movements as nimble as you would find in a typical FPS. Also you will find aiming to quite different in a tactical FPS as it has more recoil and lesser cues to guide your aim; though it varies alot across each and every tactical FPS. Some is light on the 'tactics' and more on the 'action' whilst the reverse applies to others.

standard fps = spray and pray, and it's ok to die because you'll respawn and be right back in the fight.. but this time you'll know where they are hiding.

tactical fps = awwww man I don't want to run across that allyway... you it and let me know if it's safe.

or.... what everyone else has said is correct too.

Most games usually tack the "Tactical" tag on there to make you think it's better/more fun/harder than one that does not have the "Tactical" tag. Usually theres no difference.

COD is tactical. Go play Hardcore S&D and run out guns blazing.

Tactical shooters feature gadgets like snake cams and teammates who say things like "Tango down". The line between regular and tactical can be pretty blurry depending on the game.

they are a lot harder and slower. when playing rainbow six vegas the game is slow. u always should lean against a wall. fps like halo and call of duty 4 it is a more run and gun type of game.

tactical shooters require teamwork and are more enjoyable with a co-op feature, though not all tactical shooters have this feature. some examples of tactical shooters is the BiA series, Rainbow Six, & Ghost Recon. pure shooters are more of a run and gun affair, and while they require skill, you're forgiven for running out in the open, guns blazing. some examples are Doom 3, the upcoming Wolfenstein revamp, and Halo.
