What is the most offensive in video games?

We hear about it all the time nowadays, some people being offended by video games, the great debates about the extreme violence in manhunt, the racism in Resident evil 5, the one minute sex scene in mass effect and the hot coffee episode from San Andreas. So i was just wondering where does the boundaries between acceptable and unacceptable go? I mean we saw a man in bloodrayne 2 hanging in his own intestines and no reaction whatsoever from any media, nor that main character wore some extremely revealing clothing. But as soon as the public sees as much as a bare breast in mass effect we are getting bombarded with debates from people that claim that games are pornographic or too violent etc.

Manhunt was forbidden in like 4-5 countries, yet we didn't hear an eep about Soldier of Fortune Payback when they proudly announced a trailer, that showed people getting completely mutilated by machineguns. Does the game just have to be famous and hyped before it gets a beating from the press?

SEX is good - Extreme Violence is why I play games - even swearing adds to the realism, so this is absolutely no contest for me...

Racism is OFFENSIVE regardless of if it's in a game, movie, music or anywhere else.

Honestly there is nothing wrong with any of the above with me.....if someone wants so feel offenended just dont play the game....Adding to that, we all see and hear worse things on televsion as well as our day to day lives....so in the end it does not really matterHunter_1410

Exactly, I see nothing in games that I can't flip to TV and see there as well. (Besides chainsawing somebody I guess, you'd need to flip to a movie for that one)

I'm not offended by anything is GAMES because it's just that, a game.

The word "offended" is one of the most overused words and nolonger has the affect it used to have, sort of like the word "diva".

I have never been offended by sex/violence/discrimination. Most of the time it is put in the right context and helps set a mood/tell the story. You don't want a shooter where you shoot with ballons or something and the enemy just sit down when there hit or something. You want the story to be realistic. War is gory, so war games should be gory. Even discrimination should be allowed in games, if used propely. By this I mean that when you, for example, play a game set in the early thirties you won't see black cops or something. It is discrimination, but is realistic. A game where a white person only kills black people or where you play a nazi deathcamp guard should be banned offcourse.

Children shouldn't play games with sex/violence/discrimination offcourse. Although it doesn't hurt a child to see a boob or a naked lady/man. If the nakedness isn't associated with sex.

And if you are offended by sex/violence/discrimination, don't buy these games/movies/books/music. Being offended by sex is a weird thing, shocked ok, but offended.

Those things aren't offensive to me at all......now poor gameplay and lots of glitches....thats offensive.

Really though, I am not easily offended by anything, racism can be offensive but most of the time I really don't pay that much attention to it happening. The F-bomb has no effect on me at all, it is one of the most used words in my vocabulary......thats sad......

Easy, product placement and advertising... I completely understand the fiscal reasons behind all this but I refuse to play games where ads and products are placed everywhere.

I personally don't like EXCESSIVE bad language...just gets annoying. Plus if your playing, other people can hear it in your house...even if there not in the room. I have missed important parts in stories because I turn it down so others can't hear it...but oh well I usually just replay it when no one is around.

The one funny thing I keep seeing in this argument though is that people say that violence/bad language etc... just makes game more realistic ... yet in-game advertising is often scorned... to me in-game advertising such as in Rainbow six vegas added to the realism...I mean if you go to vegas, then lo and behold there are advertisments everywhere, so why shouldn't there be in the game if done right?

You can say "racism offends me" but should not say "racism offends people". I'm a person and I'm not offended in the least. There sure seems to be alot of PC comments on this topic.

It seems back in the 1940's there was a lousy leader who tried to get his people to all think like him as well and look how that turned out for him and many other. Of course I wasn't born back in the 40's but I've seen alot of films on this lousy leader, of course they were all in black and white and dubbed in German. That's a classic example of personal freedoms being taken away and no one having the freedom to be offended or not. Are you offended? It seems the government tries really hard to make people feel that certain things are bad and less time allowing the people to make up their own minds based on personal experience. Either that or there's alot of sheep who'll fall for whatever they're told by the government. I agree that the media is not very accurate with some of their videogame stories they display on the news. Remember back when God of War was released? They were claiming it to be a pornographic game. I mean really!? Did anyone there even play God of War? They should have focused more on the violence than the sex coverage if they were going to do a story on it.

Most recent, Mass Effect's 'sex scene'. Did anyone even play the game? The people involved didn't seem very educated on the subject. The media's coverage is coming from individuals who are not familiar with today's videogame industry. Games have moved beyond jumping on monsters and rescuing the Princess from the castle. Very similar to movies, there are games for adults, teenagers, children, and for everyone. Videogame auidiences are no longer restricted to the 10-18 year olds. The videogame auidience has expanded. The age of the average gamer has increased steadily every year. Some people may not even realize that; i.e. the media

EDIT: I found neither sex or violence offensive. Violence has been a part of the world for a very long time. There is no such thing as a perfect, peaceful world and there never will be. Sex is only natural. When people make a big fuss about kids seeing it then it really doesn't make much sense considering they will find out about one way or another and they should be spoken to on what it is, why the child shouldn't engage in sex at that age(this includes all the dangers), and how to handle it maturely when you see sex.

Ok theres just no way to say racism isn't a bad thing so by that logic the Civil Rights Movement shouldn't have happened because there was nothing wrong with the racist people treating black americans like that. I'm not saying that anyone should be told how to think or feel, but that there are things that are wrong and or bad to think, and feel like is it ok for adults to think about young kids in a sexual way no its wrong and its bad, is it ok for someone to think that someone is an animal or beneath them just because of the persons race no its wrong and its bad. No one can tell those people how to feel, but that doesn't change the fact that what they think/feel is bad.
