it seems to me that it's to be as annoying as possible, be it on the mic or in game.

i guess i missed the memo or am just getting older and grumpier. but now it seems you go into any game, any match.. and you'll find the usual; quickscoping, glitching, using whatever exploit overlooked.

where did the skill and competition and just having fun go among casual gaming?.. WTH happened?

there's always been a crowd that did the cheating stuff, i wont deny.. but now it seems they're the higher percentage of gamers, and the norm.

i tried some of my old faves as i'm currently bored with what i've been playing, and i cannot find a decent honest game for the life of me.i wont name names of the games, cause they're all like that; people trying to find whatever cheap thing annoys others and soon it's an epidemic. i'd understand it if it was something that made you better, they've always been around (aimbots and the like) -i wouldn't approve, but atleast i'd understand-but most of it seems to be done just to spite others nowadays. (cause it looks pretty boring to me)

i know we can group up with other likeminded people to limit interaction with these types (if you play enough or have enough friends who play) but you shouldn't have to.

please let's try to clean up online gaming and get back to how it was. let's get rid of this messed up attitude that's so prevalent. if your bored, do something else.. don't try to ruin others enjoyment. you can be competitive without being a douche ;)

i guess that's a good microcosm for why this society is so messed up though :(

*sorry for the rant, i gave up on trying to find a good honest game and had nothing to do.

Quickscoping has never been an issue, just deal with it. The aim assist doesn't completely lock on the target or gives you 100% accuracy. It really depends what CoD you're playing, mostly 4 or WaW is pretty much messed up with hacks and such. If you want to play a game competitively, join gamebattles or MLG.

Online gaming has always been full of randoms; everyone has a variety of skill levels and personalities. There's nothing you can change that.

Assassin's Creed MP was awesome for about 4 weeks. Right up until it became nearly impossible to have a great match due to people exploiting game mechanics in order to reverse the roles in manhunt, and the realization hit that running around CoD style in the free for all modes was not only as lucrative as being stealthy, but gave the added bonus of forcing your pursuer to chase you, thereby lowering the point value of their kills. Utterly killed the game for me.

Meh, I haven't noticed a change at all since I've started playing online games competitively (although I've only been doing so since the start of this gen). Yeah, a lot of random people are jerks, unless I have a friend or two to play with I won't even bother.

Co-op though I still find a lot fun, even with randoms. People tend to be a lot nicer when working together to complete a common objective.

Seems to me that this all boils down to you being terrible at COD and needing someone to rant to. I have a simple solution for you... If gaming online has become problematic - than stop playing online.

I understand your frustration, believe me, a lot of us do; however, when you let the Live community hinder your own personal experience then you are essentially letting those asshats win. My advice is as you stated, just find a group of like-minded individuals to game with.

When I was a kid the only cheating I did was more lives or unlimited lives. Anything more than that I got tired of the game because it was too easy. I don't understand why kids these days feel like cheating so much when it comes to exploiting or boosting. It sucks, but I still enjoy online multiplayer.

I remember when I was a kid all the adults were inpressed with how good kids could be copared to them at gaming and now the role is reversed. Me being 32 I notice I get owned more than I used to. No deal breaker for me though. I just game with adults now so I don't need to hear all the stupid yapping kids do online now.

Mute everyone and you'll enjoy it more. Haha

If you really want to game with adults check out http://adultgamingenthusiasts.com/ We have game nights and tournaments. 21 and up gaming and a good crowd of people..

Online gaming has lost one thing we will never see again, COMMUNITY! Player don't really log on anymore to play with a community of friends that meet up everyday, they play for one reason in most online games, Shooting. Call Of Duty has changed most new generation gamers into Hardcore Call Of Duty fans; Nothing Else. A lot of young gamers wouldn't even consider picking up Skyrim, The Witcher, or Dark Souls because it isn't Call Of Duty. Personally, I am a fan of most games. I play Call Of Duty when I am in the mood for a quick casual game, and I play Skyrim when I want to be commited to a game for several hours. Online gaming provides gamers with a quick gaming experience. If somebody joins a single player campaign or starts Skyrim, they intend on playing for a long period of time. Online gaming still has it's place, just it needs a quick revival to get it on track.

The point of online gaming is to take part in competitive or co-operative play with anybody in the world, at any given time.

Any negatives that come with it are just unfortunate side-effects.

There's more to online gaming that playing pick-up games with randoms. This isn't the 90's anymore.

Build up a consistent group of online buddies that tend to like play the same way you do.

What games are you encountering cheating in? BF3, the new Tribes, and MW3 are all free of any kind of "cheating" from my experience. There were problems with people getting under maps early in MW3, and then some AC-130/Reaper glitch, but besides that, there hasn't been any kind of "cheating." There are certainly things that annoy me in all of those games (quickscoping in MW3, roadkills with the MAV pre-patch in BF3, etc...) but nothing that is gamebreaking or unfair by any means.

The older CoD titles have serious issues with hackers, because Activision just stopped supporting them but Black Ops and MW3 are free of all that. The only time I feel cheated in those games is when I lag really badly, or when the hit detection is iffy, which is just the game's fault lol, not the community's.

I don't play Gears 3 or Reach anymore but none of my friends that play them have mentioned any kind of cheating going on.

Can't really think of too many other MP-heavygames with substantial followings besides MMOs.

Anyway, online gaming is still very fun imo. There are more annoying people/trolls on the mic now because there are more people playing these games in general. Just mute people and find people to play with lol.

There is still "skill" required in any shooter. As much as people try to argue games like CoD don't require it, there's a reason some people consistently win and others consistently lose. It may not be gun skill, accuracy, etc... but there is a certain level of awareness and a certain kind of thought process that "good" players have and "bad" players lack. Play SnD in CoDand make a point of watching others, it's VERY clear who is going to be able to pull off clutches and win rounds and who is going to do nothing for the team, and very easy to figure out what the good player is doing that the bad player isn't. As far as people having fun goes: gaming is only as serious as YOU take it and as fun as YOU make it. If you go into a lobby to have fun with your friends and be slightly competitive, then you'll do just that, even if others are talking a lot of trash, trying to do annoying things, etc...

I used to have more fun with online gaming 4-5 years ago, but that's more because it was newer to me back then. I was learning about how to do well and what not back then. Now, I can play pretty much any game from any genre and do well online, so that challenge is gone, and with it, some of the fun. I just create my own fun in games. I've been using odd guns in CoD games since MW2, for example, to make the games more fun for me.

I don't play online unless I'm extremely bored. I dislike voice chat, it's distracting. I also just prefer single player, from story to presentation it's just more memorable than a random online match.

When I do play online, I don't do much, and I still play alone by cutting off all communication, which is why I don't play co-op unless split-screen since it requires communication.

There are enough games in the world to keep me occupied on just single player.

I don't want online gaming to be removed completely, it's nice to have, I'd rather complain about the fact that multiplayer is the side of gaming that gets special treatment nowadays.

Quickscoping, glitching, and exploiting glitches... It's either Halo or COD. As for people boasting, gloating, or downright talking smack... it's everywhere. It's not isolated online. So either mute the player that's racking your nerves, or quit. It's a simple solution really. There's no sense in having a meltdown on an internet forum because someone is being immature on XBL.

sorry bro

but to me

hacking ,glitching and cheating are not only the norm

learning to use the cheats, hacks and glitches shows dedication to the game

and in reality

if everyone is using the same hacks glitches and cheats

everyones on the same level

Played today GTA4 after not playing online on xbox for 2 weeks.

And it pissed me off, every one is just trolling and constantly killing you for no reason.

Then I played some cod and that was just horrible. Quick scopers, 360 tricks, campers beh.

No reason indeed for playing online. I'm buying more and more single player games.

I'll reiterate that multiplayer has become an industry standard, look at games like Mass Effect, Assassins Creed, even God of War! All branching out and joining the ranks. It's not going to stop here, either. I'm almost certain that next generation developers are going to emphasis on an already oversaturated market and that co-op/ competitive multiplayer will become mandatory. So all I can tell the folks complaining is that either get used to the idea or find another hobby.
