What is up with black people getting sterotyped in videogames?

In the new Final Fantasy game, the african american guy has an afro, he talks like a stereotypical black guy (You know, never making any since) he's always complaining and he's the wimp of the group. Also he has a little CHICKEN following him around. In GTA San Andreas, CJ is in a gang. Why can't I play a decent black guy for once instead of these lip-smackin', gangbangin', whiny idiots? Name ONE game where you play as a decent african american, I dare you. (Mods and character customization don't count).

Well Cole from Gears even though you dont play as him hes nothing of what you say ALL black people are like in games.Ummmm....That dude from Crackdown.And ummmm thats all i can think of.

As an African-American myself I agree that the black race is poorly portrayed in video games. And someone mentioned that Cole is one that isn't but I disagree. But it's not in video games, while it may be better in some, movies also poorly portray blacks. Why? Well I think we can pretty much agree that most people in the gaming industry are white, so when the decision arrives that they have to include a black character they probably go off the stereotypes. But as far a black character that was done right, Sheva from RE5 hands down.

People see and remember what they want. I do not want to sound racist but it seam that most blacks seek out the worst things in a black character and say that is the only thing that makes the character.

In Vice City, the white main character was mobster and that is just as bad as a gangster and no one care.

As for CJ, people forget that he is willing to do anything for his brother. He let his sister be with a male of a different race while his brother threw out many very racist slurs. He also become friends with a blind person and treated him like anyone else. He may be the most decent main character in all of the GTA games.

Sazh is a father willing to be exil to save his son from becoming a monster. Also he choose to face against a powerful monster with just a pair of pistal if that not brave then what is. The Chocobo chick is important to his character. He is also the wize man of the group and a skill pilot.

Haha, I didn't even think about this...And that's back in the day when there were virtually NO black videogame characters!

I got one, how about Afro Samurai? It's easy to say that blacks are portrayed poorly when it is another race writing the script, but same goes for whites when portrayed by blacks. According to every black comedian ever, whites are all pompous bigots and wimps. So please, shut up with this stale argument. There's a black guy as president for God's sake. Even if he is way, way, way too liberal, be happy! Also, if you want to see a smart TV show with about a 95% black cast that is written by a couple of white guys, you should really check out The Wire.
