What is wrong with my GTA4?

Ok... so for several months now... I have been having issues with my GTA4... it freezes... every time I play... but it is only GTA4... I can play other games for hours with no issues at all... but I pop in GTA4... within minutes it freezes... my disc is perfect... It has no scratches, smudges, or anything... no lens burns... nothing... and even when not using the disc... when playing from the HD with the game installed... it still freezes... including the new DLC... it all freezes...

Any ideas on something I can do to fix this?

Could adding thermal paste to my GPU/CPU in the 360 help? Because the last time I cleaned it... the thernal paste that is put on by microsft was pretty much all gone...

I am guessing it is a problem with the disc since this is the only game this happens with... but I don't see how... I completely beat this game right after launch and had a good 50 hours of play put into it before I stopped playing... never had any problems like this... then shortly after the new Xbox Experience came out... I wanted to try it again... but now it freezes all the time... I know nothing happened to it between then and now... it has been sitting in its sealed box on my desk...

Any suggestions I could try out before I go try and buy another copy?

I stated earlier that I have done this before and it didn't change anything...

Usally whan an xbox crashes frequently on games that requre a lot of power like GTA, Obilvion and Mass Effect etc, The next thing it does is die on you.

I've had this happen twice to me and it's probably the GPU.

But it is only GTA4... I have both Mass Effect and Oblivion and this doesn't happen on either of them...

Also does anyone know if putting new thermal compound on my GPU/CPU would help? Because the last time I cleaned my case out... when I removed my x-clamps and took the heatsinks off... there was almost no thermal paste left on the surface of the gpu/bottom of the heatsink... so maybe putting some new paste on would help it cool down and therefore not freeze... (because I have read at various other places that the 360 freezes to prevent hardware damage... once the gpu/cpu reach a certain temperature... they simply stop whatever they were doing to prevent the temperature from damaging them...)

Can anyone comment on this?
