What is your favorite gaming genre/type?

There are many words in the world today that could describe a games genre/type. First Person Shooters, Third Person Shooters, Sci-Fi Games, Adventure, Action, Fighting, Historical, Fantasy, Role Playing Games, etc.

My Question is, Which of these many words describes your preference in a video game? For instance. Do you like First Person shooters? Perhapse you're more into strictly Science Fiction type games rather than sports? What i'm asking is what is your favorite.

And to add onto that, what is your favorite game from that genre/game type? Multiple Games are of course allowed. I'll just use mine as an Example.

I guess mine would be more along the lines of Shooters in general. And my favorite Shooter Game is the Gears of War Series.

I hope to hear all about your preferences and discuss these games with you guys further. Perhaps even recommend these games to one another too if its not too popular of a game.

i love games with A LOT of custumization and freedom. like elder scrolls, skate, tony hawk and saints row. most game like that are RPGs so they are my favorite. its also nice running around in a full suit of armor and killing with a bow or sword lol

Haha, the ones i picked out of your list instantly were the Tony Hawk Games. I don't play those really anymore, but back in the day those were my bread and butter. My favorites were American Wasteland and Tony Hawk's Underground: 2. American Wasteland simply because the settings were sick and you were pretty much collecting to build the ultimate Skate park. And then Underground 2 because it was just a giant prank war with Skateboarding thrown in. Project 8 was pretty sick too. But yeah, Customization is always a favorite amongst people. It's always just awesome getting to customize and use your own character and see him prosper and level up and stuff. But yeah, awesome choice man.

I am a sucker for a good RPG, i.e. Skyrim, Mass Effect, Star Wars. But I also enjoy my sports games (Madden, NCAA Football, Forza).

oh my gosh yes! when you're in the mood. Nothing is quite as good as a good sports game.

I like open world games and shooters.

My favorite genre would be RPG, followed by first or third person story based shooters, action adventures and sometimes sports games ala Fifa/NHL

RPG/JRPGs for sure. I do like a lot of shooters too though, but nothin' beats a good old hefty RPG.

My favorite will always be pure platformer. I love Mario and grew up with the NES/SNES so I enjoyed the Golden Age of Platforming. Now it's a dying almost extinct breed.

I also highly enjoy Action/Adventure, FPS/TPS, Action RPGs (Skyrim), some Sports (racing, golf, hockey), Puzzles

I hate RTS, JRPG, MMO, Free to play aka Pay to Enjoy.

I really enjoy Hack and Slash games like Bayonetta and Lolipop Chainsaw

I mainly play FPS and RPG titles.. enjoy the occassional third person title and platformer

Im an fps fan at heart, but i play every genre

Really hard to choose just one. Not a genre but I get interested in a game if it has a strong single player. I enjoy multiplayer but it's not a deciding factor whether or not I buy a game. I still buy games that depend on MP (BF3, MW3, etc. Mostly because my friends really enjoy those type of games) but I don't hold on to them for too long. I usually end up selling them about 2-3 months after I buy them while I can still get at least $30 trade in.:P

RPG, Sports, Exteme Sports, Racing currently I guess. Used to be FPS all day, but kinda overplayed them this gen I suppose.

Currently playing Skyrim, Madden 13, NHL 13, Tiger Woods 13, SSX, DiRT 3, so yeah that sounds about right.

Mostly FPS, but I like other genres too.
