..Or genre?

In a recent thread i read about someone who finds himself not finishing a game or even touching it after he buys it. This happened to me as well until I realized I CAN'T play EVERY game. There's a certain number of games I play now and mostly they follow a specific genre or sometimes is just a game I enjoy (like Megaman 9).

So far I finished

GTA IV
The Simpsons Game
C&C3 Tiberium Wars
Bionic Commando Rearmed
Castlevania SOTN (XBLA)
The Orange Box
Bioshock

I think my thing is mostly Action Adventure with the ocassional RTS (as long as it is C&C) and RPGs.

Yea I buy more games than I could ever play. I just don't have the time like I wish I did.

Bioshock was a perfect game to me. I like creepy atmospheres and horror games.

My favourite genre is RPGs, generally JRPGs. I own more of them than any other genre.

That being said, i play a lot of action/shooters (eg. Devil May Cry, Lost Planet, Uncharted etc.)

On the topic of not finishing games, i generally do finish all of my games, although it takes time. Most RPGs take ages to finish, while the action/shooter games don't take long at all. I alternate between games, so i've got a good rhythm going on.

My favorite games are Action Adventure/RPG/Fantasy/open world type games.

For example, The Legend of Zelda, Mass Effect, Fable, etc. I like games that allow me to do side quests and not just follow the main story.

However I can play most genres, I love RTS games as well, and FPS and third person shooters.

I finish almost ever game I start, unless it's just terrible, but if that's the case I usually stop playing really early.

Even if I don't like the game that much, it might take a while, but i usually manage to finish it. Such as Lost Planet for example. I put it down near the end of the game, then picked it back up a few weeks later because it was just bothering me that I hadn't finished it.

Mau-Justice

same here. I'm not a fan of super scary games (Silent Hill), but Bioshock was just right for me. It was creepy, chilling, but not to the point where I shat my pants.
Dead Space sort of reminds me of Bioshock, which is why I'm leaning towards buying it or asking for it for Xmas.

Also, my game preferences are sort of mixed. I like shooters, RPGs, Action Adventures...
Assassin's Creed, CoD4, Bioshock, Gears, Fable, Phantasy Star Universe.

Yeah i didn't take bioshock as a horror game at all. They should remake secret of mana for the 360. I generally like violent games though. Like condemned cause you can rasp clawhammers round guys lips. .

My favorite genre is RPG.

The last games that I really enjoyed almost 100% and replayed it over and over again was KOTOR 1. I really enjoyed the story and I found all the characters interesting and I played through that game way more than anything other than like SNES-era platformers.

Strong story, good characters, gameplay thats fun and challenging. Basically the game is totally designed to be fun and they go for that goal no matter what. When games go for that, I usually end up enjoying them regardless of genre.

I finished most of my games . . . not all achievements but finished the game story line. I'm pretty picky about games since I don't have time to play them all. I tend to be more flexible about what types I play. I'd play almost anything as long as it interests me. What I usually do is make a list and if there's nothing coming out that I have to get right away I go to the list and see if I can get it on Ebay cheap. This way I keep on playing different games and it doesn't make my wallet cry.

Sorry that wasn't the way I meant it. Just saying seperately that I like the Horror Genre. Not that I thought Bioshock was horror. Bioshock is just creepy, with a great atmosphere.

Favorite Genres = Arcade Racing (Pure, Motorstorm, NFS: Series, Burnout Series), and Horror (Condemned Series, F.E.A.R., Dead Space, Silent Hill: Homecoming). I enjoy shooters but it's such a wide genre and there's plenty of shooters that I really don't like so I wouldn't put it as my favorite genre.

My favorite genres are RPG's and Shooters (First or Third Person)

The thing that makes me like a game the most is its story. A game that makes me care for other characters in that game (which is hard to do) has me won. The games that can actually do that are usually the ones that also have excellent gameplay.

While I'm mainly a traditional roleplaying guy, I do like a very broad spectrum of games. Action/adventure, simulation, point-and-click, strategy, puzzle, fighting, sidescrolling, racing, open-ended, online, card, even some decent shoot'em-ups. I think this is the main thing that attracted me to the XBox 360, it has a very well-rounded library of games with different styles and gameplay, which is great for someone like me. Plus, I can go it alone or play online against/with other gamers, so it's just plain tubular.

my kind of game would probably be the action adventure (sandbox) style. Games like Saints Row or GTA. I like to have the freedom to roam around or pick what mission I want to do next. but I also really do enjoy games like Ninja Gaiden II, Conan, and Too Human. Sometimes just smashing (or chopping up) tons of bad guys with a big ol sword is fun!

I find that my favorite genre of games were the old type interface games by Sierra. If you haven't played the quest for glory series of the space quest series I would highly reccomend them. I also love to play First person shooters. I find that Call of Duty 4 is a great game and is a blast when you play with a few friends.

I like 3rd person titles, especially if they're sandbox games. I've also noticed that most cool games are produced by developers like EA, Eidos, Rockstar, Activision and Ubisoft (To mention but a few). Maybe the reason I didn't mention more developers is because unlike the U.S. or Europe we people in Africa don't get alot of game releases.

How did you guys get your levels up. I'm kind of new to Gamespot's forums, maybe you could fill me in?

I enjoy:

RPG

FPS

Action

But with all these RPG's and FPS's out now, i feel like once Need For Speed or Midnight Club comes out, i will be devoting my time to them. After playing COD4, Halo3, Mass Effect, Oblivion, and GTA4, I definitely feel like i need to play something else, genre wise.

my favorite is rpgs hands down. western rpgs mind you. I never could get into all that melodrama in JRPGs. but that's just me. I usually play whatever bioware throws out there. But I might take a chance with fable 2. It looks like they are really going to deliver.
