Thought I'd try to get a good discussion going today.

For me its Story, I need a good story to keep things interesting, to keep me interested in the characters and keep me wanting to come back.

Anyone else?

Yeah I agree. If the story isn't that good it is hard to keep me motivated to play unless it is a FPS, because then I am just playing to shoot something that moves. Halo did a pretty good job in getting an involved story with run & gun play though.

The main character. If I don't like the main character then I just can't get interested in the rest of the game.

Hopefully, Tomonoby Itagaki.

Ninja Gaiden II will come damn close. Its gonna be just as hard, but more friendly to those that havent played, and has the perfect remody to item spamming! Although, it is more action than adventure, see lack of puzzles. Hopefully ninja gaiden II has some more P+P, then it will reign supreme.

Well, i guess... presence of action and/or adventure... :)

Seriously though... the mood of the game is one of the main things, characters matter as well. i.e. story in Assassin's Creed is awesome, BUT the ending was weak... actual action and adventure made that game incredible.

Nothing wrong with blood and violence.

Miss the days of Twisted metal and Spy Hunter, those good Driving Adventure games.
