To me it has no RPG elements. The powers just flow with the shooting. To think that theres 70 + powers a bunch of wepones and bullets you can make. The deep story and the insaine graphics make this a truely unique FPS.booomer69
There's only....10 plasmids. Not 70+.
Where are you guys hearing about more than 70 plasmids? :|Trickshot771
because it said so at the end of the demo

Really, now?
Well according to http://www.gamesradar.com/us/xbox360/game/news/article.jsp?sectionId=1006&articleId=20070816153557220084&releaseId=20060426172349312080
that really long link it says "every power in the game explained" and it shows a video showcasing 10 different plasmids. I've never heard of a plasmid other then those 10.
List of plasmids that I know:
the blue ball thing that makes security cameras target enemies
the enrage thing
the green ball that makes big daddies fight for you
incinerate
shockbolt
the ice one
telekinisis
the one that makes a duplicate of yourself
the one that shoots insects out of your arms
and the cyclone trap
I don't think there are anymore. If you can find more, let me know, because I'm pretty sure there's only 10.

Just to clarify, there are 70 plasmids. However, there are only 10 ACTIVE plasmids ( the ones you use in combat )
The other 60 are "tonics"...ie. non-combat plasmids that boost your abilities. Such as "Medical Expert" which allows you to gain more health when using first-aid kits and "Melee Master" which increases the attack power of the wrench.

Oh I didn't know they were including those. When I think of "plasmids" I think of the things that help you kill stuff, not the passive ones.

Yea it's confusing :? but seriously...think about how hard it would be using 70 different attack plasmids lol I'd lose my mind trying to decide which 6 to equip lol[QUOTE="booomer69"]To me it has no RPG elements. The powers just flow with the shooting. To think that theres 70 + powers a bunch of wepones and bullets you can make. The deep story and the insaine graphics make this a truely unique FPS.Trickshot771

It is primarily a FPS, but it does have RPG elements. You can mix and match powers and tonics, upgrade weapons and ammo, take pics of enemies to discover weaknesses, and apprach situations differently.
All that makes it possible to play different roles and change them on the fly. Will you just charge in guns blazing, or forgo guns and focus on plasmids, or maybe use hacking and plasmids to make your enemies work for you. You can do all that and everything in between.
Hello. I have taken a hiatus from the 360, but I want to find some new games and power the system back up. I have been looking at Bioshock, and I assumed it was just another FPS with great graphics, but then I heard that it has some RPG elements to it as well. Can anyone expound who has played it or the demo. I would DL it, but I am not online yet. I think I am going to go buy the Wifi adapter tonight and get caught up on the sensation that is the Xbox 360. Thanks :)darthlgp
The RPG elements come into play with the tonics, which you can use to upgrade your player to be better at melee, ranged combat, healing, etc. It's also unique because of the element of strategy you employ: will you blast your way through an area, hack into security bots for help, strictly rely on plasmids, or a combination of these things? It also has a unique setting, a utopian society under the sea that fell apart, and a unique story detailing how it fell apart.

I believe those are only the physical plasmids. There are others for engineering and other stuff I forget.
What makes it unique are its great graphics, its story that is a lot better than most movies and books, and the variety you have in customizing everything. Also the really funny lines you hear from talking splicers and Sander Cohen.

Bioshock has more RPG elements than most rpg's these days. People tend to think that rpg's are all about stats and improving it with experience and skill points. That is not what rpg's are about. RPG stands for Role playing game. You play a important role in something big. It says nothing about statistics. Bioshock does exactly what a great rpg should do, which is delivering a great story and giving you an important role in all that is happening. There are statistics in most rpg's, because the part of that character in the whole world becomes more clear. Good example of that is Final Fantasy X. Like i said, most rpg's have totally forgotten about that and are just about stats. Best example for that is the MMO.

I beg to differ on the MMO comment, the Role Playing isn't just about playing a big role, it can also mean taking on the role of someone that you aren't in your real life, I suppose that's the nerdier way of putting it but the idea behind RPGs isn't to let you play an important role in something rather it is to let you play as a character that you can connect to and mold it as you see fit, so you can play the role you'd like.
And about Bioshock, other than the story I really didn't find anything spectacular in Bioshock but that's just me.

Story is an important part of any rpg. Most MMO-RPG's dont have them (pointing at World of Warcraft). I think they should make a new name for MMO's, cause a rpg without a story is like peanutbutter without the peanut. You cant have the one without the other. It wouldn't be the thing you're calling it then.

I don't get it. To me Bioshock was a bore almost. People all over say it was amazing and a new direection in FPS in this generation. To be honest, I have seen no FPS that has truly pushed it out from norml FPS yet. Things that make next gen are improvements and innovations with the new hardware that comes with a new generation, not just pretty graphics. I didn't clock it cause I got bored and only rented it for a night, have no idea what the story is like, from what I saw it was pretty average.
The new sonic boom plasmid, which is insanely fun IMO, its basicly a replica of "the force" in star wars.
Also, your forgetting number 1 2 and 3s of some. I dont know if you actually consider those seperate plasmids, but i do. Or, maybe, the other 60 plasmids are actually tonics. I have no idea though.
And btw, Trick, sorry, but, are you always trying to be a smart ass like this? Its always proving someone wrong with you. I understand trying to prove someone wrong, but being a smart ass about it is freakin annoying. And dont critizise me about my grammar, i understand, its not too good right now, but i freaking have a fever and can barely breath as it is.
I was attracted by the stellar graphics, sucked in by the amazing atmosphere and then rewarded by finishing the magnificent story. In a time where multiplayer is what most people focus in, it's great to have such an awesome single-player game.

I concur. If you're obsessed with cod 4 and Halo you might approach this game wrong. It's got plenty of action, but it's the story and how you can approach every room differ. I love all the guns and using differ types of ammo. I love setting the dead bodies on fire cuz they burn so well and then using my telekenesis to set other things on fire cuz it spreads in this game so long as it's flammable. Or shoot them toward enemies like a fire ball and it lights them on fire. I love making the big daddies follow me around and protect me, or make them do battle with each other. Or freezing an enemy and then bashing it to shreds...etc And the feeling of it all was so omnious almost scary like. The 50's like music but the futuristic looking dystopia. If you have ever read Atlus Shrugged the book then you'll get an idea of the main theme behind this game. Play it. Its only 39.99 now as well.
