What should my first 360 game be

I would go for Gears, an awesome single-player campaign and a terrific CO-OP campaign.

Depends what type of games you enjoy, Gears of war provides fun with single player plus co-op mode as well as a rather difficult online play

CoD gives easier online play but no co-op mode for you and your friends

Sports games give you single player, friends play and online play... but you may not like sports games.

One of those would be my first choice 

you probably shouldn't get gears because you could get stuck at some parts in the game and then you dont have any other games(same situation with Splinter Cell:Double Agent). I would recomend a sports game where you cant get stuck or if you don't like sports games get COD2 not COD3 it sucks.

Even though I don't have a 360... yet, I really enjoyed playing Elder Scroll's IV: Oblivion. It's relatively easy to get into,(but relatively impossible to put down). Even my sister loves it, and the last game she played was Tony Hawk's Pro Skater #1 on my old N64.

Back on topic, yes Gears of War is a must get, also games like Forza 2, GRAW 1+2 and Oblivion

EDIT: Ohmy! How can I forget Guitar Hero 2?! Get that as well.

Gears of War.  No doubt. Best game on any system right now. 

If not that, then Oblivion would be an awesome choice if you like RPG/ adventure games.  Simply outstanding.
