I am having a real hard time trying to find the right TV to play my 360 on between 27" and 32". Ihave about a thousand dollars to spend but i have some question that i need answers to first

1) how big of a difference is there between 720p and 1080p?

2) what should i look for in a refresh rate?

3) are there any TV'smade specifically for gaming?

1) Ignore people that tell you it doesn't matter. 1080p is the way to go. 2) 8ms or less. 3) Samsungs are perfect for gaming.

1. 1080p (or 1080i)

2. 10000/1 contrast

3. low response time 8ms is the max should try for 4ms-5ms

4. view the TV see how Blacks and Greys look and if possible look at the screen edges when playing a console (Xbox 360, PS3)

They're not that expensive. You can get some good 30" ones for around $1200 while a 768p (1366 x 768; slightly better than 720p) that are 32" cost around $950.

1080p cannot be noticed seen in screens until they're at least 40in. And it's not worth the extra cash, considering the good looking content of today is all in 720p (Gears of War, Halo 3, Forza 2, all major games)

Let me point you to IGN's HDTV guide. Since you're looking at a smaller TV, you'll probably end up with an LCD screen, but look at the benefits of this and what you look for when purchasing one.

I'm rocking a Polaroid 32" T.V. which I got from Circuit City for about $700. Thats a good deal on a good T.V. You don't need the best T.V., just the best bang for the buck. And that is just what this is. I have this T.V. and it looks amazing with my 360. Don't let others talk you into something you don't need. 1080p is way to expensive. I would rather have a nice T.V. which cost a reasonable price than spend a lot of money on something that isn't REALLY worth it. (click the t.v. for a link to the website for more information on price and specs.)

You can't even see the difference with the 1080p...and the 720p TVs at the same price are better. Since they're small and the 1080p doesn't really factor into the equation, and the 720p TV is bound to be by a better brand and have a better contrast ratio.

One thing though topic creator; if you do go with a 720p/768p TV, don't set it to 1080i. They advertise that it has it but all it does is make the image quality worse. Make sure you set it to 720p with component or 1360 x 768 with VGA. The only time you ever need to use 1080i is if the TV's standard resolution is 1920 x 1080 but it can't do progressive. I highly recommend you get that Westinghouse that someone posted above. It's 1080p and very cheap.

Actually he's correct. There is NO industry standard to measure response time or contrast ratio. Hell, the 120hz Sharps have motion judder, the exact problem 120hz technology was SUPPOSED to eliminate.

All of these huge numbers, 10,000:1, 50,000:1, are all manufacturer claims. Truth be told, a movie theater screen is only a 500:1 contrast level on the ANSI scale (as close to universally accepted as you'll get) and a BRAVIA XBR2 is about 900:1 on that. Go figure.

It doesn't matter what you guys debate over. The guy only has $1000.00 and that will not be enough for any 1080p t.v. until they release 2160i in 2010. So with that being said, just get yourself a nice Hitachi 55" for $999.99 or a Sony 46" for $899.99 from Circuit City.

the thing i HATE about samsungs is their crap dynamic contrast ratio which means nothing and imo hurts the quality..id try and find a static contras.

For the Samsung? Yeah. I recommend you buy a VGA cable and play on 1360 x 768. It'll look great.
