I would have to say the leap from the Atari 2600 to the Sega master system. I mean it was a huge leap from blocks moving around to characters you could actually make out.

I think the smallest leap is the xbox to the 360, really baby steps so far.RawhideSphinx
Sega Saturn(playstation graphics) to the Sega Dreamcast was definitly the biggest leap. Soul Calibur (launch game) still looks good up until this day. It also gave us the first truly beatiful 3d graphics ever (lets face it N64 graphics were freaking blocks).
Ohh and smallest leap-wise, it certainly isn't the Xbox-Xbox 360 leap..... Gamecube - Wii??? lol, now thats freaking midget steps.Alucard_vx
Thats not even a leap, its a freaking side step
Biggest leap would be from either the SNES to the Saturn (going from 2D/psuedo 3D to full-blown polygonal 3D), or N64 to the Dreamcast. Biiiiiiiiiiiiig difference there. In the days of the N64/PSX/Saturn graphics were giant polygons (granted though things got a lot better close to the end). Then the dreamcast suddenly has all these perfectly smooth models, particle effects, and textures. I can still remember the first time I played a Sonic Adventure demo at a mall a few months before the DC's release. I was ****ing blown away.

If your talkin about graphics then yeah but if your talking about technology advancement its probably one of the biggest steps in gaming advancement history. But the biggest advancement was SNES to N64. And the smallest was Xbox to 360 because it just advanced graphics a bit. The reason why 360 is way better than the Xbox is that it's getting lots more support from 3rd party companies.[QUOTE="Tom_Brady860"][QUOTE="Alucard_vx"]Ohh and smallest leap-wise, it certainly isn't the Xbox-Xbox 360 leap..... So very very very true on both staements... infact the 360 was a step back by not having a HDD on all the systems like the first Xbox did...
i think it was the ps1 to the ps2. it truly introduced the 3d games and i think it changed gaming right.RealKilla_789
I completely agree. When I first saw the Playstation, I thought how crappy and blocky the graphics and textures looked, so I passed on it. Then when I saw the PS2, I was completely floored how crisp and clear the graphics looked. I ended up buying one on launch day.

I love the Wii and the 360 but i'm just don't like people sayin the Wii is equivalent to a gamecube when they are totally different in gameplay. Yeah right now the graphics look the same but Nintendo chose to go a different route then Sony and Microsoft. Instead of going the upgrade graphics and power, Nintendo decided to change up standard gameplay. I like the Wii for a few awesome games (Metroid Prime 3, Galaxy, SSBB, BWii,Mario Kart, Tales of Symphonia 2, a few others.) while 360 has tons of awesome games coming up. Like COD4, Halo 3, Orange Box, Assasins Creed, Prototype, Darksiders, NFS:PS, Blue Dragon, Eternal SOnata, Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Last Remnant, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fracture, etc. So no, I am not Nintendo only.[QUOTE="Conroi58"][QUOTE="Tom_Brady860"][QUOTE="Alucard_vx"]Ohh and smallest leap-wise, it certainly isn't the Xbox-Xbox 360 leap..... I think he has a point on the Wii. While it's too bad nintendo skimped on the graphics (though the cheap price seems to have helped sales), the mere fact that they have tried to break away from the controller and towards a much richer human-machine interface deserves major kudos. Even though I've never even played a Wii, I think it could be a major evolutionary step in console design. Anybody can do powerful graphics, but it takes real creativity to overhaul the interface the way nintendo has. Controllers made sense in the Atari days, but technology has come far enough along that there are now way more possibilities and all console mfrs should consider them.

Yeah Gamecube --> Wii the innovation is amazing, graphics are a little better, but it is definitely the biggest leap. Please Log In to post.
