Halo 3 is probably the popular fan choice, but game of the year would probably be something like Mass Effect. Oblivion beat out Gears of War on some game of the year awards.

halo doesnt hav enuff innovation 2 b the best. i just think its a polished shooter. asasins mite hav a chance but i think it will b 1 of the big rpg's this year: mass effect or bioshock
gta 4 will b solid but not amazing and guitar hero just doesnt look like a canidate in my mind. my vote is 4 madden 08 lol

i think the only reason that gears won is cuz it came out towards the end of the year. not that gears wasnt amazing and it didnt deserve it,i LOVE gears, but it was simply timing.
on GS... GTA4. GS are huge GTA fans... and the culmination of a change in story direction (being more serious), graphics that can hold their own with other graphic heavy games, new aiming system (free aim for consoles!), and a huge focus to detail will bring R*'s game up top.
