We started to discuss the next generation of systems after this in another thread and I got curious, what would gamers want to see in a future generation of consoles? Leave some comments here with your list of what would be essential for you.

To get it started, I'd want to see Blu-Ray players in all of the systems and accurate voice activated commands for all basic functions of the system (e.g., the functionality of Natal).Bigger storage space and the top of the line in data transfer so they can start getting away from discs for gaming. I love having my discs but it just seems like it's going to be the wave of the future to move away from them.

Other than that I can't see what else we'd want which is why I think this current generation is going to last longer.

LOL It might not be too far in the future, but would you still use a controller?

I'd like to see the average campaign size of Shooters (8-10HRS) take a big leap to something around 15-20HRS.

Good point but I think a lot of people pick up shooters mostly for the multiplayer. I know that I didn't even load the single player for COD4 until months after the release because we just started playing the multiplayer as soon as we got it.

I agree. :) No more proprietary hard drives that are so expensive. Also, please no more RROD--take your time before releasing a system. [QUOTE="CNUrGames"]

Agreed, if they have any technical issues figured out it shouldn't happen again. I had the same PS2 for years and it never once messed up on me.

A way to link your brain with the console so you can mentally be in the game would be cool. I'm thinking that might not be next generation though lol. Until then, some sort of virtual goggles to make games more realistic is reasonable. Realistic t-bagging, now that's an idea...

To not be using motion control. Well maybe some, but not as a main point like the Wii.

For Natal to be the norm.

Eentually we could be gaming with helmets which pick up electrodes from our brain, where we can play just by using our thoughts. It was in today's newspaper over here in England. They experiemnted with it and they got this guy to play on a pinball machine just by using his thoughts through the helmet.

Freakin sweet.

Performance on par with todays high end PC's

Redigned D-Pad

More functionality software wise

If they get rid of the controler it will spell doom for more then three quarters of there consumers.

In all honesty I'll admit this, I really doubt a new console, look at it this way, advances it technology allow us to add new hardware without much hassle, the new Project Natal is almost proof of this, though the next genertaion of course does not need to include a new console, I think the next step is full body control and voice and facial recognition and basically faster loading times more and more options and it's happening every few months, the next generation happens over and over again and we just don't notice it. The inclusion of the social networks Twitter and facebook and also last.fm is the next generation. A new console will surprise me if it is it will just be a upgrade a V.2 if you will, though a new competitor may enter the market and then it may seem necessary for the big 3 to up their game and create a new console and big step in the next generation, I can defiantly see a new competitor enter the market, 2001 was the last big new entry with the introduction of Microsoft once sega dropped out, anyone could jump in, who knows maybe Apple may want to get involved which is a great probability, rumours fly around all the time about this subject, anyone agree?

Also mucrosfot may want to branch out and create a handheld, again it has been rumoured ever since the 360 was relased onto our shelves, there is really a great number of options and is really hard to tell which route the next generation will take.

:)

Its always been a dream to get a solid VR experience. sooner or later it will come, and i imagine we're about there, where it will be cost effective and functional.

Expanded user content, especially for people like myself that use Lightwave, Maya, or 3ds max, that could import objects and textures and other content created on a pc.

I love having physical copies of my games, but it would be cool to be able to download any of those games in full, and for rental. if it is priced right a bit lower that hard copies.

we can now see what game a friend is playing, but it would be cool if you could actually see a streaming video, and watch them play, as they play live.

I really like the direction Natal is going with the face, object, and voice recognition. even the motion control looks interesting, but i'll always want the option of a controller.

and the obvious advance in graphics, physics, and ai.
