So I moved up to hard difficulty a few days ago (GH3) and after getting to tier 6, i can FINALLY 5* 'One' on medium (not brilliant, i know but it's the end part that really gets me). What i noticed though, was that i was only enjoying it when i was hitting interesting note patterns.

What do i mean by that? Well, let's take an example. 'Talk dirty to me' was a song i had great difficulty on due to the long streams of orange/yellow chords with the held notes. It featured a number of sequences where i was simply holding down a fret button or two, and strumming at regular intervals. This is fine in small doses, as it gives me some respite from huge hammer on sequences. But this song was almost entirely composed of samey, repetitive 'strumming sequences' these, aside from wrecking my wrist, were boring as hell, in my opinion.

'One' on medium however is a different story. for almost the entirety of the song i was faced with a series of single notes arranged at different intervals, using different frets, it was not incredibly difficult, but was intresting and fun to play. Even towards the end, the song didn't focus too much on mindless strumming, and more on complex sequences, broken up by strumming.

The point is that GH is fun for me when it gives me skilled hand movements to think about, coupled with good songs. Do you agree? Or do you enjoy what i hate?

I understand you completely! I usually skip those songs (or play them just to pass) that dont have solos or difficult note patterns (like Saotage or Talk Dirty to me)... I think the most fun comes when you're nailing something like Cult of Personality solos... same is actually with Rock Band... and i arely play on guitar there cause it has bunch of "uniteresting" songs

Guitar Hero is actually starting to bore me because all the songs are far too easy... Only one that gives me a challenge anymore is TDWDTG. I hope they add a higher difficulty level in the next one...

Doubt it, most people want the difficulty lowered. i would prefer a difficulty between medium and hard.

Well, people who play guitar hero like to play different types of songs. If you like one on medium you'll love through the fire and flames on easy, its' the exact same way.

Me myself, I like songs with as few hammer ons as possible. I can do them but I dislike them.

i agree completely, the only songs that i can't beat are ttfatf and tdwdtg, they should make a higher difficulty for those who already beat expert, like me, and they should also put in some more challenging songs

Idk what it is - but I found Guitar Hero 2 to be a lot more fun than 3. Whether it was the songs or the fact that expert got unforgivable real fast (Raining Blood expert, seriously??)

Sucks that you have to beat EVERY song in each tier on hard/expert

Well, the only thing good about either Rock Band or GH3 is playing with friends.

yes very much, especially seeing as the song rhythm seems to have no correspondence with the on screen notes

GH is just plain fun. You start to hear new songs that youve never heard before and you become really good at it. All of the Gh 3 song are in my Ipod Touch :). Try playing it youll love it

Yeah, that is where I am at. I just played guitar hero 2 for the first time this week, and I am addicted. I can do pretty well on medium, but hard is really hard for me. I have only been playing for about 4 days now, so I could still use some more practice. I play a real guitar (12 years), and let me tell you, some of the songs on hard a harder for me than with a real guitar.

just more challenging songs is all it needs. And the jump from medium to hard isnt much, just takes practice.

well guitar hero isn't exactly a guitar simulation it's just a rhythm game using a guitar like controller and it requires it's own skill to play. Just give it some time. When you can atleast 4 star the devil went down to georgia or through the fire and the flames on medium, thats when you should move up to hard.

Thanks for the little tip, I was wondering when I should attempt hard.

Actually I am quite impressed with GH. I think for the most part they did a great job with the finger positions. Most of it makes sense to me. I know that just because I can play a real guitar, doesn't mean I can play GH with ease. I think it does however give me a little advantage since I am use to moving my fingers in such a manner. After 4 days of playing I think I figured it out pretty quick. When I first put it in I went straight to medium with out any practice, and beat every song on the first day. Now it is time to practice more and try to get 100 %.

TDWDTG is a fab song to play and a real challenge when you can pass it w/o star power, then move up to hard
