It kind of makes you think about what you're going to do.

I haven't played a turn based game since FFX though so I'm curious to see if I'll even enjoy FFXIII.

I think its put into RPG's to make the D&D fans feel right at home.

In KOTOR I would have much rather had control of my light saber than to enter attacks in the queue.

I can get up leave during the final boss to make myself a snack to the epic boss battle music in the background. True story. Honestly never liked it. I tend to stay away from those games unless they have some sort of mechanic to engage you like the shadow hearts series.

It depends on what king of turn based you mean. If you mean turn based like in Baldurs Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Ogre Battles 64, Dragons Age Origins, or KOTOR it adds strategy to the game while letting you watch the characters that you made the way you wanted fight in decent/really goodlooking combat. Usually in games like this the way you leveled up your characters or set up your party make a big difference in combat and the game really does require you to think about what you are doing. The "turns" are used more in a D&D way (especially in Baldurs Gate) where things like your weapons, stat buffs, class, speed, etc determine what you can do in a round or turn. I really enjoy games like these.

If you mean JRPG style turn based where the battle has to load, it is boring to watch after the first few battles, you usually have very little options for customizing your character, all you do is grind and choose attack and your strongest spell while in battle, and the only strategy is saving up your MP from battle to battle or remembering if that monster was weak to fire, lightning, or ice then I see no fun in that at all. I have always hated the battle systems of most JRPGs.

I like the fact that I can sit back and think about what move i'm going to make. I've not playeda turn based game since FFX but I just liked being able to a) have a break b)think through my moves

10 years ago it was fun because it was the norm, and what everyone was used to. Now they don't appeal to me any more, and the cookie-cutter combat system stamped into JRPGs just doesn't appeal to me.

I like it as a change of pace sometimes. Plus, if done well, can make you think a lot about strategy, like in the Fire Emblem games. I don't pick up TBC games for their form of combat though: I do it for their stories,

Well because you can take your time to think out your moves, plan ahead -you know- form a strategy of sorts

And because some people find that non-turn-based games simply turn into a frenzy of random button mashing that results in sore fingers and broken controllers.

Only used in RPG's, which is cool because you can level up, upgrade your equipment, use items for abilities, heal, spells. So how you upgrade your character has an effect.

If you're controlling a group of people, it gives you time to give them orders and make use of their abilities.

I like the strategy that is involved in taking turns. It makes things so much more exciting for me. It's also fun to watch your actions play out in front of you.

Depends on the game but for me it's like a chess game. I usually think 5 or more moves a head before picking a certain action. Especially, in boss battles.

I miss Turn Based RPGS...so tired of this boring and now generic battle system of running around and hitting buttons. I'd much rather plan out my strats. FFVII, FFX, and Lost Odyssey all used turn based systems and I love them a hell of a lot more than games like FFXII...

i think fans of rpg's like myself look at the strategy aspect of turn-based combat. also rpg's typically offer many more hours of gameplay (usually 40+ hours) compared to most fps games (less than 10 for most). more bang for your buck. check out the Last Remnant's turn based system. very interesting twists in its system. i enjoy playing the different types of turn based rpgs to learn each games new type of system, they are all fun to use and with progress in the games they become more engaging. overall its fun to level up in these games and create an unstoppable force by the time u reach the end of the games. compared to other games you just go out and button mash and people say they have strategy in their mashing of buttons. i enjoy all game genres but i just enjoy how these types of rpgs engage the gamer and bring them into a new world with many hours of gameplay.

I never really thought turn based games took strategy. The game would usually end up being cheep give the other guy more turns and stuff of the sort. But I feel the only reason it was ever made it because it's simple and they rolled with it then. I'll play a Turn Based game every now and then but I would get bored of it sooner than later.
