Does it just make the disc not spin so it's more quiet? Does it load faster... save disc health, what?

Usually loads faster but in odd cases it can have the opposite effect, it also reduces heat since you don't have the disc drive using power.

In case of Fable 2 it stopped the game from crashing.

I thought it might cut the loading time of Oblivion when installing the game on my harddisk, but that didn't happen unfortunately.

In many cases, installing doesn't improve the load times on 360 for some reason - or if it does, it improves by a few seconds if at all.... however, it drastically reduces heat, lengthening your console life and more importantly (for me anyway) it reduces the noise of the damn console. I find the 360 to be very, very noisy and really like it when I can install something to reduce this.

you would have to have them side by side to notice the difference most of the time and you are used to the load times from the harddrive
