Hey man whats up. Some of my friends use a router in there apartment and thats the only way they are able to play on xbox live. So you might have to use one. ELRYou mean, it would not be possible to plug my 360 into the Ethernet jacks in my dorm room and play on Live?
What are you talking about. Not only will you be able to play xbox live but college will be some of your funnest gaming experiences ever I promise. _shaft2000You're probably right. But my friend who goes to McDaniel College in Maryland says that his connection is a measly 1Mbps, which would be prohibitively slow to play on Live. Now I am saying this is probably an isolated case, as everyone I've talked to about college internet says that their connections are fine.
I'm going off to college next year, and I was just curious to see whether or not college dorm rooms are adequate for playing Xbox Live on. Pretty much any college has internet service in the dorms, though will firewalls possibly hinder my experience?NicAgentI actually love playing Xbox Live at my college. Its ridiculously fast, even compared to my pretty decent cable at home. Although, set up was a bit of a hassle. They had to do this bit where I gave them the MAC address of the console so they could register it in their system (so the firewall wouldn't block it). Other than that, its been great.
What college? University of South Carolina here, GAMECOCKS.cyrax453
Cool deal dude, I graduated in 93!! GO GAMECOCKS.
theres plenty of time to play. College is made out to be this unbelievibly difficult thing, when really all it takes is some good listening skills. I always find plenty of time to play. I was in your position last year

The MAC address? Is that the number that is directly above the A/V cable slot and near the ethernet port on the back of the console?NicAgent

I was there while Halo 2 was at its peak and I was always the host, so never had any problems with people using standby. Hopefully you will be fine.
Well do ya guys think that there is a better likelihood of a good internet connection at a large state school such as UCONN as opposed to a small liberal arts college somewhere?NicAgentI really hope you aren't going to base much of you college decision on what kind of connection you get. Anyways, the information should be on their websites. Smaller schools mean fewer users, but that also probably means less bandwidth in general. UCONN will probably have more bandwidtch but tens of thousands of users. Almost anywhere you go it should be fine as long as your roomates aren't downloading massive amounts of pron why you try to line up a headshot.

I know when I was in grad school, I could not use the college's internet to play. Made everything laggy :(
I hope Indiana State has good internet that is what I have been worrying about. I just got a full scholarship to play football there.P3NCEGrats man, prepare for 4 years of *almost* being decent. I feel the pain tho, I go to Notre Dame and we are *almost* a really good team. Stupid crappy secondary.
i was wondering could u pay for an internet serice in ur dorm if u wanted too? and if u get the internet with ur cell phone company, eg verison wireless. is there a way of using that internet with a router or something?sjdwalesProbably not in a way you would like it. You can get dialup in your room since you will probably have a phone line, but that's about it. As for verizon, if you want a really crappy connection, you can get a verizon wireless card and connect your 360 through a laptop. But yeah, it would suck.
Loaded statement for sure. At times, college is more laid back since most people only have a few hours of class a day instead of 6, but, depending on the classes you take you could end up with more work than ever before. Though, of course, if you are a slacker you can get through college doing almost nothing, but you get out what you put in.100% college is easier than high school so if ur a gamer ull play.
