I'm planning on buying a 360, the arcade console is at a very nice price, $350. However it's missing too much to be worthwhile, so I'm mainly looking at the pro, which is listed at $500 for both 20GB and 60GB versions, dunno whats up with that.

What has me confused is the elite. It costs $650, and far as I can tell, throws in a 120GB hard drive. As I wouldn't spend more then $100 on a 500GB hard disk, that seems a tad insane. Sooo, anyone got any opinions on these three?

its all the same mate , black, white, red , black white ....black red, white red ... they are traters they think just about money , and those harddrives are to expencive, just the mark "microsoft" and "xbox" makes it so expensive, but don't care about that ... just buy the scheepest xbox and don't give a f*** about the 60 GB hardrive ... at the other side, if youthink you can be a hardcore fan then buy that black version but if you wanted to be a fanboy you didn't iven asked that question!so the answer is .. 350$ 20 GB!

it also has the option to use hdmi and 5.1 opticle out sound at the same time which the others cannot. id probally buy a 20gg or 60gb if i was buying one now, i got a 20gb. but the point was more relevant before the 60gb edition, rememeber the elites over a year old, and was brought out originally when they was only 20gb hd max and the xboxs never had hdmi ports. the other remaining point is if you think you will sell your console on again in the near future it will get the most money back as the others go for pretty cheap if you sell them to shops now for cash. if its $650 then id expect a price drop, as in uk its dropped to 249 pounds which is probally around $500 id expect them to revise the top model of the elite for xmas so its either upgraded in spec/bundled accessories to justify its price. will probs get a bigger hard drive, a new colour and poss built in wireless, but i think the first two improovements are the most likley to keep the top end price comparable to ps3

Pretty much just a hard drive and different color really man.

I got a normal 20GB and I'm happy with it. I got a Memory Unit though so I could take my profile with me wherever I go really. it's easier than retrieving gamertags.

That makes no sense - you are trading in a larger HDD and games for the same console in white with no games and a smaller HDD???

The big difference in the elite originally was that the elite had a 120 gig harddrive and an HDMI port. The original Xbox 360's did not have the HDMI port until last year I believe (Or the year before that), and only had a 20 gig harddrive. The difference in price between the elite and original 360 was 100 dollars. currently the difference should be $50. Which brings me to my concern as to... DUDE WHO THE HELL IS RIPPING YOU OFF $650 YOU MUST NOT LIVE IN AMERICA OR EUROPE OR AUSTRAILIA. BECAUSE THAT IS PRETTY F***** UP!!!! DUDE I JUST LOOKED ON GAMESTOP.COM AND THEY ARE SELLING IT FOR $450 AND THE 60 GIG FOR $350. My friends it someone is offering to sell it to you for $650 you are getting ripped off!!! End of story....

Like others have said the main benefit of the Elite over the Premium is the HD size. They both have HDMI now, but the Elite comes with another adaptor to let you use an optical cable for sound at the same time as using the HDMI for picture, however you *do not need this* You can just plug in the regular adaptor(component/composite cable) and use the optical out on that. The one that comes with the Elite is about $50 seperately in the U.S. and is a complete waste of money.

Personally I recommend a 60gb premium, but if you think you must have 120gb of hd space then go for the elite.

Edit: incase no one knows what I'm talking about I'll add this link

lol, acctually I live in Australia, and 650 is the going rate for it here. If it wasn't for the PAL vs NTSC thing, I'd just import the console from the states, nearly everything in the US is half the price of everything here XD

EDIT: and yeah, I think i'm gonna get the 60GB premium console :) seems the best deal!

The advantage is in the larger harddrive, which comes into play if you download demos or videos (I do both). Given the substantially higher price of the Elite there, that doesn't seem like a good deal.

the poin of the xbox 360 elite is that the console is Black

Yes, I've thought that to myself many times as I go about my daily business, "I have a 360 Elite, so I am cool." How insightful.

Their truthelly isnt much point of the Elite in my opinion you look abit of the fool if you think its seriously a neccesarity to buy no one really does need that big a drive, but i guess what microsoft are trying to do or say is look PS3 and Wii mines is bigger than yours unfortunatley i and many other people dont really care lol.

The hard drive is what makes it all worth while

The HDMI cable is nice and I hate that milky white color of the other consoles but this fall once we're able to copy games directly to the hard drive? Well that's gonna be great. (keeping the disk in the drive to check for ownership)
