I'm not sure if this topic was adressed before since i'm new and there are like thousands of topics here but

did it ever occur to u that well..not all of the games...but most of them have disappointing final bosses fight?

i mean rare are the games where the final boss was really the hardest....

i mean i can't name and find the best examples right now...but for instance in the first ninja gaiden...

i mean Alma was waaaaaaaaay harder than the last boss

or maybe oddworld stranger's wrath................

ok really it's 2 am and i'm jsut came back home and bout to fall asleep haha so...i jsu tremeber that everytime i play a game i'm dissapointed by the final boss' fight does anyone share this opinion?

Yes it has been discussed, and I don't like final bosses, I think their should be final battle, with numerous enemies. This is striclty for shooters though.

gow1's boss wasn't THAT hard. just spam the torque.

i also agree that ninja gaiden's last boss was a bit of a pushover. same with the sequel.

Making the last boss the hardest is an antiquated move in game development now, this isn't the day of the old side scrolling beat em' up where you spend a few hours beating the crap out of random goon after random goon to fight the big boss who take 10 times as many hits to kill. Story is a huge part of gaming now and sometimes the generic last guy is the toughest thing doesn't fit into the story. While I did enjoy those days, It didn't always make sense. Its like those Hollywood movies you see where a guy is like a slimy underhanded character constantly hiding from the badass main character who can punch holes iron doors, but at the end of the movie that guy fights on even ground with him. That's lame, I prefer the choice now that the last boss isn't automatically the hardest that it makes more sense storywise that they would be less of a challenge than someone else was.

Yes I kinda understand what you mean... I like endings like Halo1 and 3, but the end of 2, where you fight that big ape.. that was just stupid

who cares if the last boss is stupidly hard or not. its the overall game gameplay that matters not just the last fight, sometimes it fits the story to have a weaker boss controling everyone else

i didn't say the last boss SHOULD be the hardest but if u wana think bout it storywise as u guys are saying well...usually all the "mini bosses" are sent by this final boss so it is also stupid that they are tougher than him

yeh i kinda understand that it is old school and each one his preferences i jsut think that since the story is very important and shoudl be amazing its end should live up to it both on the actual "ending" of the story and the final task u have to do it has to be really different than all of the game.

And yeh i coudl imagine tales of vesperia's boss would be hard since RPGs i susually based on health meters and hwo much dmaging the attacks are so...it is quiet cler that the final bsos would have a hifgher health bar and more powerful attack.

True that, the last final boss I remember being really satisfied with was the pigman at the end of Manhunt. What you do to him at the end.... so great.

The final battle or the final boss should be ~satisfying~. I absolutely hate it when you have this amazing game, with awesome gameplay and an intriguing storyline...but the last thirty minutes of the game are way too easy. It's even more annoying when you have other bosses and battles throughout the rest of the game which are 10x harder than the last battle. The last battle should always be the 'test', at which point you have to really know what your doing, or just get really lucky.
Nowadays, I rarely see a last boss that makes you go..."WTF?!?!"...in absolute frustration because of the high difficulty. It's more like..."That's it?...Oh...well the boss half way through the game was way harder than this."

Especially in action/adventure/RPG's should there be a last boss, however, in shooters, the last level should just be INSANE. Halo 3 pulled that off, COD4 pulled that off...but there are still some FPS (Gears of War wasn't really that spectacular) that lack the moment where you yell..."Friggin' rights, I'm amazing!"

games should have harder bosses like back in the days. the bosses were huge and hard it took a while to kill the boss.

Last game I played that had a hard final boss was Devil May Cry 3 Vergil other than that most of these games bosses can't even be taken seriously.

Actually i was also thinking that not only do the bosses ( final or intermediate) are easier these days but also... like it's basicly just slashing and hitting th boss or hitting on really really obvious parts of it.

I mean i remeber back in the days...in zelda gaems especially...u ahd to actually THINK on how u should kill the boss...ok maybe i was too young and the boss' critical points were obvious and i couldn't see them but...i still think that 2day these tiny details that actually made u think in a game are being really rare or if they are present they are too easy to unveil...

ok this really off topic but since i talked bout it : also puzzles when exploring worlds are really easy these days also a reference to zelda..to complete a dungeon or even to go from one place to another or completing a side quest ( liek in majoras mask and the bomber journal) i mean THOSE WERE THE BEST puzzles i've ever seen in a video game..and with all the technology we have 2day..they can't make half of that..too bad

ok ok i'm done talking lol

Some types of games are better than others at making final bosses. When the final boss it would be a great feeling for winning over a hard boss. It make it feels better about winning and something to be proud of.

The type of RPG from Japan have some of the best final bosses.

Platforming are the second best.

Shooter are always the weakest when it comes to bosses. It is how they are set up. Fracture had a hard final boss but that boss is just an upgraded enemy.

I think most games should have a difficult final boss. The game is about going through those challenges and becoming stronger from level to level, gaining access to new weapons or powers, and then being ready for that showdown with the main villain when it shows its face. Not all games are, but most.

I remember I was disappointed with the final boss in FFX. The scene before the fight was touching, as was the scene after it, and granted the boss was tougher than most other enemies in the game. But after you defeat its first form, instead of becoming stronger it gets weaker, and revives you when you die, and a lot of story plots are left unresolved such as what exactly Yuu Yevon is. I was touched by the way Tidus told his father he hated him before he killed him, even though they both knew he didn't really mean it but wanted to show him he wasn't a cry-baby after all, and then the way he finally made peace with him and gave him a high-five in passing. And then the game ends with a boring scene showing Yuna talking to people in a senate-like setting, and it felt very out of place. I get it was supposed to show how Yuna became empowered and confident from her adventure and stood up for herself instead of being the stereotypical helpless woman, but they could have ended with something more. The clip after the credits with Tidus swimming through the water was a stroke of genius, though.

In some games having a tough last boss doesn't mesh with the story. If you look at Halo sure the Prophets are powerful but they are also old and vulnerable hence the reason they need warriors to do the figting for them.

If you play a game like Hitman or Halo you know that the storyline doesn't support a tough final boss, the final boss is smart and mentally powerful but physically unremarkable hence the reason he needs warriors as his "min-bossess".
