I agree. The proccessing power of the CPU will not be much more but the GPU will be nuts-fast. That said, Everything looks so good already, don't think you will be blown away. Only the N64 and Dreamcast made lasting impressions in graphic quality.

I will never understand why people want a console to last so long. I will be happy with my consoles for another couple years, but after that I am going to want more. Technology moves so fast that if we are all playing ps3, 360, and wii in 2012 they are all going to look outdated. I think a new console every five years works for me.
i agree, technology is growing so fast its crazy, and 2010-11 is still like 3-4 away and thats a long time. i cant imagine me playing the same console for that long.

The Xbox 720 is just something that people have picked up. It's nothing official, but you get the idea 360 + 360 = 720. I think the next Xbox would come out around 2012, we all have to remember that the Wii and the Playstation 3 have just become 1 year old, it is too early to think that the next generation of consoles would come around within 3 years.
Those jerks better not release a new Xbox b4 2009. I paid $449+ for this thing. And it was hard trust me Im still a kid. If I was grown up and had money I wouldn't mind though
I think a console should last alot longer than 5 years. Technology moves fast, but it does not move that fast, at least graphically. And all I mean by that is x-box and ps2 graphics work just fine even by today's standards, especially the x-box. Sony historically has a life cycle of 7-10 years which is something I think all console makers should strive for. X-box has been out for 2 years now and you can't tell me that my purchase I just made a week ago will only last me 3 years now? That's robbing the consumer. Everything else electronically lasts longer than that. If you're an early adopter it's good for you but what about all the people who jump on the band-wagon late? This is why they need to adopt the practice of making games for there older consoles well into there new consoles life cycle. Sure it's good to give consumers the need to make a next-gen jump, but for many it's something they can't to due to lack of money. For others it's waiting for the consoles bugs to be fixed (red ring of death anyone?). That idea alone made me slow to by a 360........just go to the forums and count the number of 360 failures, made me warrant my purchase even if it's just the arcade version. I'm hoping well into 2010+

Of course I'm all for next gen, the latest and greatest technology and better games to ice the cake of games 360 gamers are already spoiled with. With that said, I may be ready, but my wallet is not. I hope Microsoft doesn't follow in the footsteps of the original xbox and prematurely kill a great system by releasing a new system.
i would say 2009 or 2010 because of how far advanced games are becoming and i think with the games that are coming out the developers for the 360 are going to need more than just dvd to make their games

i think they released it at the right time, because they converted alot of playstation players therefore making it the most popular console. cause i never owned a xbox before the 360 and i got the 360 because the ps3 got delayed in australia, and lever looked back since, all my mates did the same and i think alot more people did also.
I can not believe that some gamers are thinking about the next generation of consoles. Lets face it,both major companies Microsoft and Sony have had their problems. The Xbox 360 still leaves many gamers wondering how long will it last. Sony is still waiting for the games to fill its library! Many gamers are hard pressed to come up with all the cash to buy a system. pay for online, and fork over 60 bucks a game. There have been a number of quality games this season that fortunately both system can share. What will be the next roll of price hikes? I can wait for now and hope that if they do create a new console it works and is truly backward compatible. Someday, there will be one machine that can play them all. This maybe the future Microsoft and Sony!

2009. Why? Because technology evolves every day. And BTW I think PS3 as a complete failure, Sony is having big losses for them, and unfortenely the ps2 still sells well...
it seems everyone is saying 2010 or so, i was thinking that a new revamped version of the 360 will be released in 2009 or something and then in maybe 1213-ish the xbox 720. but i haven't really thought about it. i hope another 2-3 years at least before the next one, i just got my 360 last month.
If it comes out before 2010 they had better sell it for the same price as the 360 now. why i say that? well sometimes i feel that the gaming economy grows too expensive too fast. With games at $60 and systems selling for $350 and up, i expect that **** to last a while. I also don't think the 360 improved all that much on the xbox. so i hope it comes out 2010-11.
P.S. I hope gaming developers are not as nervous about next-gen as we are, they should be focusing on how to get the best out of the new systems.
