I bought this book a few days ago but I was reading Mass Effect: Ascension and finished it last night so I started reading Aspho Fields today. They say its a prequel citing what happend in the Pendulem Wars, but in the beginning of the book theyre talking about Marcus activating the lightmass bomb and that happened at the end of Gears of War. Im starting to think this takes place between 1 and 2, but since they say its a prequel, Im pretty confused.

Please, no spoilers since Im only near the beginning but if someone could clear this up for me, Id really appreciate it.

How does that work then? Hoffman and Prescott are talking about the Lightmass bomb now, and even included what it did to the Kryll and we didnt find that out till Gears of War 2. Does it flashback?

Well, from what I've heard it's suppose to take place somthing like fourteen years before the original game. I just got the book today and I'll start reading it later. Once Im done I'll tell you I guess.

Ill be done within a few days, its just really confusing me. Im on Chapter 2 or 3, and it seems like its taking place right after Gears of War because of the talk about the lightmass bomb.
Also- Turn to Chapter 1 at the beginning and look at the bold print. It says-

Ephyra, Present Day-- 14 A.E

Im certain that A.E stands for After Emergence, similiar to A.D for After Death

It would help if you read the book so you actually knew what you were talking about.

Well, alot of book jump from one point in time to another. I could imagine that later in the book one of the characters will think back to the past for the bulk of the story or somthing. If not then the cover are isnt cannon to the actual story since the book was originaly going to reveal how Marcs got his scar. I mean, one the cover Marcas has no scar and the characters are holding older versions of the lancer. Worst case scenario it could be a half assed book with no regard to the time line and we'll have a nice big plot whole and the series will become like Star Wars to where you don't know what the hell is canon anymore. Hopefully thats not the case. Like I said earlier though, I'll just have to read it myself and discuss it with you later or somthing

This is a little off topic but A.D. meansAnno Domini which isLatin for "In the Year of (Our) Lord"

Ok, I will explain it to you.

I read this book a couple of weeks ago. It's a semi sequel/prequel. It starts out 1 week after Gears 1 where everyone thinks that the Locust have been destroyed because there hasn't been any big attacks like in Gears 1. Just random skirmishes with small groups of Drones. Prescot thinks that we won by killing all the major types of infantry and all thats left is the drones. Delta squad is on patrol and they get attacked by some Drones, Dom almost gets killed but is saved by an unknown sniper. They later find out that the unknown sniper is an ex-cog soldier named Bernie. She knows Marcus and Dom very well, she fought with them during the Pendulum Wars. Dom has questions for her because she fought alonside his older brother Carlos during the Pendulum Wars. He wanted to know how he died and only she and Marcus knows because they know how it happens but they never told him how he dies back then. Dom didn't get to fight with Marcus and Carlos because Dom was in the Special Op's aka Commandos while Marcus and Carlos were just regular COG infantry

The sequel part just focuses on an operation to move all these food supplies to another location because locusts were gonna attack it so it's up to Delta Squad to help protect the convoys. Hoffman tags along and so does Bernie. You also get to see Tai Kaliso in the book *who is in Gears of War 2* He was a special op's soldier who fought with Dom.

The Prequel focuses when Marcus meets Carlos and Dom as kids because they went to the same school together. They grow up and become best of friends. Marcus and Carlos enlist when they are 18 because thats what they want to do. Dom gets upset because you can't enlist unless you are at least 18 but Dom managed to get enlisted at 16 and he also marries Maria because he got her pregnant . As time goes on the COG army goes through a secret operation aka Aspho Point, it is where they believe the Pendulum Wars will end because that is the place where the Hammer of Dawn is created. So the COG want to go in and take the technology so they can win the war.

So the book jumps from the sequel to the prequel quite a bit. The book is very good, I'm gonna read it again soon. Hope that helps.

The book ends like a day before Gears of War 2.

It takes place during several different time periods and shifts back and forth between them: Marcus and Dom as kids, as teenagers, as green enlistees in the pendulum wars, and between the first and second game.

Already answered that wrestler.

Marcus goes to jail because he abandoned his post at a battle to save his father which caused a lot of men to die. Marcus was then sentenced to Jail and that is why Hoffman hated Marcus so much.

I know, but you used way too many words. I just did it in a more concise manner.
