Do you mean how was it graphically compared to PC games at the time? For the time, considering Xbox was a new console I remember Halo being pretty mind blowing, PS2 had nothing to compare at the time and from what I recall most PC games were on par graphics wise, albeit much higher resolutions. Halo was a system seller for a reason.
As far as PC games of 2001 you had things like Runescape, Clive Barker's Undying, Tribes 2, Max Payne, Aliens vs Predator 2, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Even when the PC port came out 2 years later- the same year as Splinter Cell, Call of Duty, Max Payne 2, Star Wars: KotoR, Jedi Academy, Rainbow Six 3, Freedom Fighters, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, GTA Vice City and Deus Ex: IW and I'd say it kept up with - or exceeded - those games graphically.

MGS2 was possibly one of the best looking games of the previous generation...and it was released in 2001 and it crushed pretty much every single PC game that had been released...hell the top graphics pc games back then were deus ex and undying and they looked like ass compared to MGS2
