I was just thinking that Halo 3 is the only game not on my HDD, since it was optimized to play from the disc. ODST runs on the same engine as Halo 3 but I don't know if that matters.

Anyone knowafter ODST comes out, do we play the game from HDD or disc?

I'd say it would probably be on a disk so you can download it from the disk. I want the game after all i think it comes out next month. Plus you get Halo:Reach beta and other stuff if you reserve it. :)

Yeah, they said not to install the matchmaking disc. Only the actual ODST disc.

The matchmaking disc is basically the original Halo 3 disc minus the campaign and plus every Halo 3 map ever. Which really pisses me off since most people already own 90% of the maps on that disc yet we still are expected to pay 60 dollars for it.

If you own all the maps and you dont care for the ODST campaign then its not for you. I have 2 xboxs so now I dont have to pay twice for the maps. I also wont have to connect to LIVE to play the new maps.

*Wait, I am confused*
If we don't install the MP disc, then how dow we play the three new maps for Halo 3?
Did anyone mention if we can copy just the three maps to disc? Or am I missinbg something(other than 3 maps)?

Halo 3 came out a long time before the ability to install to HDD came out, and because of how it was designed to run it had worse performance when installed. Bungie are well aware of this and will be designing ODST knowing that a lot of people will want to install it, so it will work fine. From memory it was something to do with the game always looking at the disc for certain maps, ignoring the fact they were already copied to your harddrive.

I'm sorry, by why would you pay for the map packs twice? You have way to much money on your hands.

This is what I have been able to figure out.
Halo ODST come on two seperate discs:

Disc one- ODST campaign and 4 player co-op, Firefight

Disc two- Halo 3 multiplayer and all maps
.
.
.
Does this mean we don't play ODST on the multiplayer maps, only Halo 3?

ODST multiplayer is Halo 3 multiplayer. They're exactly the same thing. So, i guess, no. You don't play ODST on the multiplayer maps.

Really?! Am I the only one that thought we'd be playing as an ODST on the Halo 3 maps?
I had been wondering how it would be to play as a different character on those maps. I guess I was confused, I gotta say I haven't been this far off in a long time. This is very surprising to me.

More like disappointing. I thought the same thing. The multiplayer is Halo 3's and they add "3 new maps" ... other than that all you're getting that's new is ODST Campaign and Firefight. Disappointing indeed. Especially since I own all the Halo 3 maps, and it just doesn't justify paying for them again to get a mere 3 new maps. Campaign will be short, and firefight is the only thing I'll be missing, but it's not worth 60$ to me on top of what I have already paid for in Halo 3 DLC alone.

I am not going to turn this into a bash ODST thread. I will say you are right, this is disappointing. No matter what I print at this point is useless for me as I ALREADY PURCHASED ODST.

-Halo 3 ODST campaign took one year to make and is based off of the existing Halo 3 engine. It offers 4 player co-op online and will probably provide about ten hours of guaranteed fun.
-Firefight is new to the Halo series, it works as a multiplayer gametype and has multiple maps, which is hopefully as fun as campaign. It may have good replay value.
-Halo 3: Mythic is the complete collection of all Halo 3 multiplayer maps, which includes three maps no one owns.

*ODST campaign* $20-Let's be generous
*Firefight* $10
*3 maps* $10
*Grand Total*$40

Now I find out the Halo 3 Multiplayer maps in the ODST package are only for Halo 3.
Seriously, who doesn't have all of the othermaps for a total of $30 already spent?

I feel used.

to play the NEW maps I have to sign in to XBOX LIVE with my gamertag. because I have 2 xboxs and 1 LIVE account we cannot play system link with the new maps. both my xboxs would have to sign in to xbox live to play the new maps. hope that answers your question.

In your case...I feel it should be a rental. People pay $60 for 6-10 hr campaign all the time by the way. In my case I like to replay all the Halo games over and over. I dont think your $20 price for the campaign is fair considering XBL arcade games can go for the same price. A lot of production value was put into this game if you seen all the videos.
