When you buy an Xbox360, does there follow a code to activate it with?

I was wondering. When you buy an Abox360 do you get a paper or something with a serie-number, you have to write when first starting the machine to activate the console and be able to use it

i have the pal Edition/Im from Europe) of the Xbox360 Elite. Are you sure you don't need a serial number. can you just boot it up without using a code, that follow with some pc games

believe me, theres no such thing as a "serial code" required for activating it..
