yeah, so as it turns out, i suck at picking locks in Oblivion... anyway, is there anywhere that lockpicks can be purchased? or do you have to rely on the ones that you find? i'm playing the game for the first time, and it's the only real setback i have at the moment...
There is this dude named Shady Sam or something like that and he hangs outside of the central city after 6pm I think. He has about 100 on him everyday. He just stands there in his cloak. yeah, the indestructible one you are talking about is called the Skelton Key (I think, I am very uncertain sometimes) and in just south of Leyawin in a cave or something.

Is it in a quest or can I just walk there now and pick it up?
You get the skeleton key by doing the daedric quest for the shrine of the nocturnal. Its a pretty short quest and you can doit at a fairly low level (probably 5 but maybe even less) but the skeleton key is probably one of the most useful things in the game.
