Of course, that number is the number of created live accounts.

yeah total made accounts on live gold or silver. although most people will of had to be gold at one time even if they silver accounts now as u get 1 month gold free. obviousily people who had multi accounts and dead accounts that aint been used but still cud be also count to the number. i always thought they shud have one weekend or one day a month where silvers cud come in on player games. wud be a good way to encourage more to sign up , espieally if they used to be gold but lost interest. but still its quite a impressive number.

If I remember correctly, they did something like that once. However, I think it was just Halo 3 online was free or something along those lines - I don't remember completely, I only remember hearing about it.

its a collection of all the Silvers, Golds, and multiple accounts people make to get a free month of Xbox Live. If they just counted Golds with at least a 3-month or more to go....it would probably be around 8 million.

I think it is a great idea. Especially if they actually advertise it well enough. I never heard about it before.

yeah i figure the actual number of people actually paying for a gold account is much smaller maybe around 5million? i wouldnt count free trials. i was just trying to put it in some perspective for myself, sometimes you get all these huge numbers thrown at you and you have no idea what they really mean. i know this is the 360 forum but to compare for education sake does anybody have data on PSN accounts?

The number is of "Unique" Gamertags created on Live, Gold and Silver. So they count any gamertag ever created, even if it doesn't work anymore.

PSN is free so everyone theoretically would have it. Take whatever number of PS3's that have sold, subtract 2 or 3 million (people without internet connections) and that should be the total.

As for the Xbox numbers - ya, I know how you feel - tons of people gets those kind of numbers thrown at them, and a lot of them are decieving. I'll put it simple - there is a hell of a lot of people on Xbox Live :P
