COD 4 is amazing, but the longevity comes from online play, although I've heard the single player is amazing (but short). This should probably be a rental for you.
Halo 3 is very fun, but not god's gift to man in video game form. I would only buy if you had friends/siblings to play with. Once again, this game's longevity comes from multiplayer. If I were you, I'd rent it.
Bioshock--not a perfect game, but it is fun, has a relatively decent length, and IMO, one of the best video game storylines, accompanied by one of the best video game villains, ever. The downsides are it gets a little repetitve, andgunplay isn't on par with some of the shooters out there.
Assassin's Creed is a great rental, but not worthy of a purchase, IMO. Too much repetition pre-assassination, not enough variety in terms of stealth killing enemies, and it seems like you actually have to make an effort to play the game like an assassin instead of being forced to. It's really kind of light on stealth in general, so if you're expecting a medieval MGS or Splinter Cell, or a next generation thief type of game, prepare to be dissapointed. The combat is pretty cool though, and the graphics will make your jaw drop. The best on the 360 by far, IMO. The free running is really neat, and it is pretty cool to feel like a medieval spider man. The storyline is also one of the few out there that manages to be deep and thought provoking. It will keep your interest till the end.
Mass Effect--the game I would personally recommend over all the others. It promises one of the best video game storylines ever, lots of meaningful interactions with your party characters, lots of various ways to go about saving the universe and resolving different situations, etc. If you like RPGs, then you should get this game no questions asked. If not, I recommend waiting for reviews.
